Hello, has anybody here just came back to Canada to prepare for an interview? How did it go at the airport? Is the hotel quarantine implemented yet? I am here in the US and my flight to go back to Canada is not until Feb 13th. I am so worried that we will have to pay CA 2000 for the hotel. Thank you in advance

Congrats to all the people that are getting the visas.  It is so good to see that Montreal is really moving along.  It's too bad things are still nutty because of Covid.

Please excuse me for my persistent questions here.  I'm only mildly freaking out - but I think that might be somewhat normal for those of us who are so close - yet so far from IR/CR status.

Please answer these few more questions, if you are able.

1.  Has anyone ever been denied entry at the border - if so, what will be/were the consequences at interview?  (I've been denied 2x over the past 15 years for not having the correct travel document)

2.  Is my police certificate from June 2020 still valid in light of the new requirements or do I need to get a new one, even though this one is not expired?

3.  What are the experiences with AP?

4.  Has anyone considered or researched just doing AOS?

Thanks, all.  I'm sorry for asking so many questions.

I am in the same boat as you (working in the US on a non-immigrant visa waiting for the IL), though I was DQ'd in early Dec. Please keep me updated on how things go for you and what you decide in terms of timing to travel back to Canada. I considered doing AOS, but was warned that it would add a significant amount of time to the process (minimum an additional 18 months), and ultimately decided against it now that I am so close to the finish line. Also if you are on a non-immigrant intent visa like a TN, there is always a risk that it could be determined you entered with pre-conceived intent if you adjust status from the work visa. The consular processing gets around the dual intent issue because you are required to return to Canada to process the spousal visa.

Yikes, just got two emails from Air Canada rescheduling my Montreal flights.  Mini heart attack as I read "Flight AC000 has changed and you have been rebooked" but while my new flights are at crappier times and with connections, they're on the same days.

Yikes! I am worried about flights from YVR, as I am flying for my interview that’s on FEB 22nd. I was actually going to book 2 days in advance - fly there Saturday for my Monday interview.  Did you get switched to a connecting flight? I was going to book the 0830AM ......

Hi there, I need to contact the embassy. How do I go about doing this? Just call them at the number?

im in quite a situation now. I adjusted my status but never let NVC know. They forwarded my case to the Montreal consulate and now I have an interview for Feb 22 that I obviously cannot make with the 14 day quarantine requirement and not even having my police certificate.

How long does a police certificate take to get? I know the medical can be done pretty quickly as long as you schedule your appointment.

thanks!

Wow you are so lucky. Which state are you in ? I crossed on December 15 and I still haven’t received anything yet.

I’m in Virginia. I was really surprised at how fast I received both as well. It seems like the time frames to receive the SSN and Green Card have been really sporadic for everyone. Hope you receive both soon!

Question for people who have gone through the CR2/IR2 process, specifically interviews with your children. I notice Montreal leaves you to wait for a while once you arrive for your interview. If you come with your child/children, do they make you wait as long? My son is autistic and waiting is going to be an issue if they don't allow for electronics in the waiting area, but if I know ahead of time, I can prepare my son for this. Given the current schedule and barring any further delays, my son will also be 15 by the time of the interview. Will we be interviewed at the same time, or will they interview him separately? If our interview takes place while my son is still 14, will that change anything? I have not had to declare anything about my son's autism in any of the paperwork (though it's mentioned in the custody agreement), and I don't believe the medical checks for such conditions, but can I/should I let them know prior to the interview about my son's autism and the issue with waiting times? If anyone here has interviewed with small children or with autistic children, I'd appreciate any information or suggestions you might have. Thanks.

I interviewed with my 18 year old son and we were both interviewed together. The guy asked me most of the questions, asked a couple questions directly to my son, and was OK with me answering for my son (after my son wasn't really sure how to answer).

You should probably talk to a lawyer about whether or not you are supposed to disclose an autism diagnosis during the medical interview. They don't directly ask about autism, but the instructions I received for my medical interview said that you are supposed to bring documentation for any chronic illness or disease, or any mental illnesses you "suffer from" or have been "treated" for. These are quotes from Dr Cheema's website (https://www.drgulzarcheema.com/index-3.html). Other doctors may have different instructions:

"If you have any chronic illness or disease, have undergone hospitalization or major surgery, or suffer from a mental illness or physical disability, you must bring past history, current condition documentation and medical records regarding the issue, as well as, a list of names of any medications and/or treatment you have been prescribed.  Please provide a note from your family doctor giving regarding your treatment and prognosis."

and:

"Applicants who have been treated or hospitalized for psychiatric or mental illness or alcohol or drug abuse must present written certification which includes the diagnosis, duration of treatment rendered, and prognosis."

Note that having that stuff does *not* make you inadmissible. If you have something you are supposed to disclose, it is just better to know ahead of time, and to have a lawyers advice. You don't have to bring full medical records - you only need a letter from a doctor, which you could get a lawyer to look over beforehand.

Edit: also, I just want to say that I don't mean to imply anything about whether autism *is* a disease, mental or psychiatric illness, disability, etc. I don't know how the US government looks at it, but I do know it is in the DSM (for mental disorders). So that's why I would recommend talking to a lawyer! Just to make sure you properly disclose it if you are supposed to.

Hi all, does anyone have experience with proving intent to immigrate?

The pandemic made long distance very hard on my husband and I, so being dual citizen of USA/Canada, I moved back to Canada to wait out the rest of his application. We were DQd in June and the interview nerves are hitting hard! Any advice appreciated on documents to bring!

Is it possible to postpone interviews? Interview hasn't been scheduled yet(likely would be some time in April as DQ was July 23rd) but would prefer to push back a couple of months to avoid traveling with how bad covid is currently. If this is even possible how far back does this set you? And who do you even contact at this point since no interview is scheduled yet(consulate or NVC)? Thanks so much!

I don’t think there’s any action you can take on postponing your interview until you’re actually offered a date. I received an email shortly after receiving my interview letter, which notified me that I could reschedule in light of the pandemic if I wished to. I would advise against it though because you can’t choose when it gets rescheduled for and there’s really no telling when you’ll get offered another date.

And since you're in AoS process now, the consular process is considered stopped. A direct email contact is best and you should receive a reply in a couple days.

Never expect phone contact!

Mainly what you'll need is proof of reestablishing domicile. Some other users have recently done this but I don't immediately recall who they are...

No they sent me an interview! And I sent them an email saying I cant attend this interview as I’m in adjustment of status process. I do not want them to think I neglected my case.

A tier 2 officer will be calling me... what a mess!
