I am curious if folks here who havent seen their spouses in months, why cant your U.S. petitioner fly to Buffalo/border and then take a cab to your home? Also, people are allowed to leave before their 14 day quarantine is over as long as they go directly to U.S. via land border. Sorry, I just want to inform folks, and also see if I am missing something obvious here. I am sure we all miss our spouses a lot. Hope this helps someone or educates me on why this not viable? Thanks!

If I lived close to a border sure ;) cab fare from any border would be horrendous

LOL. I think the closest border is 1300km from where I live

Sorry to hear that. Yeah this only works for folks close to the border or if you are willing to drive non stop from border to home without leaving your vehicle. How long has it been since you saw your spouse?

Sept last year. I rushed home after we DQ'd thinking it would be 3 months for my interview. Thought it would give enough time to quarantine etc etc. Had I known it would be this long I'd have stayed until after the new year

I am so sorry to hear that. I get so mad at CCP for hiding COVID in the beginning, if they told everyone about the severity may be none of this would've happened. So much human suffering other than sickness and death. Can you visit your spouse? I guess hotel quarantine and 2k bill would be the deal breaker now?

you may want to look in to this, but officially you are allowed to leave before your quarantine ends, as long as you leave via land border in a private vehicle (taxi is allowed as a private vehicle). Many folks are doing this. I know people who have entered and left before 14 day period several times.

I think they got lucky, cuz the CBP officer told me in words that you have to do 2 sets of PCR and if you don't comply or you break the quarantine, will not let you in again. I cannot risk it at this point now. Although I am vaccinated and hope they change this for us soon. Here in the US side we even stopped wearing masks in the gym and restaurants and Canadian still under full lock down.

The 2k bill is totally the deal breaker. I just have to keep reminding myself I am almost there. I should be in the next batch, and hopefully will be approved in the interview

You mean the CBSA officer? If so, he was a dumdum. Please go to official Canadian travel website and see for yourself.

Also, leaving before 14-day period via land border in a private vehicle is not considered "breaking" quarantine.

Figured I’d post this. Yes travel to Canada can happen how ever as per the quarantine act:

You cannot quarantine in group living environments

Some examples include:

  • a small apartment you share with others
  • a shared household with a large family or families or many people
  • a shelter, group home, group residence, hostels, industrial camps, construction trailers or other group setting
  • a student residence (unless you’ve received prior authorization)
  • shared living spaces with housemates who haven’t travelled with you that you cannot avoid interacting with

For a full list of examples, visit the Congregate living settings section.

Avoiding contact with people at risk

You cannot quarantine in a place where you will have contact with people who

  • are 65 years or older
  • have underlying medical conditions
  • have compromised immune systems
  • work or assist in a facility, home or workplace that includes at-risk populations, including:
    • Nurses, doctors, other healthcare professionals, personal support workers, social workers
    • First responders, such as paramedics
    • Cleaning and maintenance staff, receptionists and administrative staff, food services staff, volunteers, essential visitors to those living in long-term care facilities

So for 14 days you are to have 0 contact with ur other half and can’t even be in the same room. Ppl who are finding any loop hole around these measures are making it harder for us to see our loved ones. Ps if a boarder agent see ur quarantine plan unsuitable you will be denied or put in a 14 day hotel. I do not want to know that price. I saw the other day on the news there is government run hotels at 0 cost but u are not leaving until ur 14 days are up.

Does anyone here know, how much visiting is too much if the petitioner claims to be domiciled in the U.S.? We are planning for my wife to visit me 9-10 days every month. Would spending 33% of your time in Canada after claiming domicile in the U.S. is too much? Can the CO deny the visa for this? I am sure some cross border couples spend every Friday - Sunday in Canada....

My husband has been in Canada more or less continuously since March 2020 and has been working remote. He's on visitor status, so has US Driver's License, employer, mortgage and the like. He's gonna be going back down to the states once I get a date for the interview.

We don't anticipate any issues with domicile. It's more of a problem if the Petitioner has permanent status/long term work or student status in Canada and has Canadian ties afaik.
