Is the flu shot nessecary? I thought it wasn't at this point? Also do we think IL's are happening today?

Just during Flu season.

I believe the annual flu shot is optional, but it will always show up on your immunization record! I didn’t get one this year because there just weren’t any available ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

At this point, any day is as good as the last. They’ll have to come out by the end of the week or people will have less than one weeks notice to get their médicale done and that seems…really difficult.

Not optional but only needed during flu season.

Was skimming through VJ profiles of people in other places of the world that were recently approved for their spousal visas and quite a few of them were dq in 2021 and they’ve already had their interviews. Pretty depressing to see… what makes Canada so different? Give me a interview next week and I’ll be ready for it! Lol

We moved our case from overseas to Canada and are now regretting it but not worth switching again. We are at the end of the line just waiting for the IL.

We had a backlog for unknown reason before covid. We also kept things closed longer too.

I wonder if it's down to a shear volume of applicants. Naturally because of the close relationship between the US and Canada there's likely to be a heck of a lot more Canadians/Americans dating/married than any other pairs of nationality. Also if I recall, the previous administration did cut back on Consular staff which has amplified the issue. Other consulates with fewer IR/CR applicants probably built up their backlogs slower than Montreal where it was a literal waterfall getting backed up.

It's kinda like an airport. A small airport having the runway out of commission will impact a few flights, but it won't take them long to get back up to speed. If that happens at Heathrow you have a massive cascading effect and in those cases you can cancel flights....can't do that with visa applications...so you have to play catch up....which you can't do if you're already at capacity.

Pure and simple the Department of State needs to hire a *lot* more Consular staff in Canada. And the whole issue of one consulate per country doing immigrant visas needs to go...I should not have to fly 5 hours for a 15 minute interview when there is a perfectly good Consulate in Vancouver. What would be really nice is if Canadians with approved I-130 petitions were allowed to enter the US with a special status granted on entry that permitted them to adjust status. It is far easier for the Government to hire USCIS caseworkers than to get Consular Officers into foreign posts. But for now, they should be retraining the Non-Immigrant Visa ConOffs to also be able to process IV applications too.

They used to do it in Vancouver as well but stopped. I understand the covid delay it’s out of there hands. But wait times have been going up and up but never going down. I do have to admit at lest the times aren’t the same as family based bc I would just cry. I seen ppl waiting well over 6 years

Yeah, I heard that they used to do it in Vancouver...whoever thought that closing the IV unit there deserves a right kick up the backside! xD

But yeah, seriously...these waittimes suck, no one should be having to wait this long, I really feel for the people in the other categories that are in limbo. Especially for the DV applicants who won the lottery but lost/losing their immigrant visa opportunity through no fault of their own. That should absolutely be addressed. x.x

up until 2016 they did it in Vancouver. I agree with @State and Maine there should be more than one for all of Canada. Would make more sense to have one in the East, one Central and one West.

Obviously at one point they did have the qualified staff to deal with cr1/ir1 and K1 Visas. Not sure what made them decide to move it all to Montreal :(

I was talking to my wife and showed her the historical data and I was like- for people who have a clear cut, straight forward case, this may be the longest anyone has had to wait in years according to the historical data on the spreadsheet. Like- I understand that certain cases require more attention but like, overall this is the longest anyone (plural, referring to such a large group) have had to wait.

Someone on tiktok was saying their lawyer quoted them up to 2 years for the K visa process if you’re filing right now. that’s absolutely wild. The department of immigration said that they were training more people to do IV, that the reason there weren’t more was because it was 1/10 of their visa volume so they only have 1/10 staff specially trained for IV, but I have not seen it. Even looking at the numbers on the official visa statistics, issuance for CR/IR is going down. We haven’t even seen last months numbers where it seems like the skipped a week, and another week seems to be skipped in May.
I genuinely just wish there was any sort of communication. I’m generally a patient person, but I’m only patient when I know what’s going on and I feel like the consulate keeps saying that they care- but you can’t get in contact with anyone, they aren’t giving information, they aren’t setting expectations, etc… I truly do understand how frustrating COVID has made life for people, and I’m trying to be patient, but I feel like I’m being gaslit lol

OMG yes! It's the lack of communication and the not knowing what is going on that has my anxiety through the roof! I am a planner! I'm not big on surprises ;) Surprises stress me out LOL
