I’m getting mine redone today for the same reason. I wouldn’t need it redone if I do get my letter but at this point I have no faith left and I just…need to feel like I’m doing something.

I’m DQ Oct 16 and if not for the horrendous disappointment of last month, I had hope for my letter this month but now…they’ve opened up more visa categories so I think our numbers are going to dwindle and I’m trying so hard to tell myself it won’t be me to help how much this is going to hurt when IL letters come out and I feel like I’m negotiating my own heartbreak.

I know on a larger scale that it’s great they’ve opened up some more categories, but it’s starting to make me feel like this is competitive when it’s not. It’s really messing with my head and heart, and I’m so tired of my partner and I watching each other suffer because of everything going on. I feel so so so bad for people who DQ’d earlier in 2021 bc the VJ statistics for appointment wait times for Canada is now 451 days…I’m falling apart at 200+. My greatest hope for all you with 2021 DQ dates is that travel restrictions can loosen up in the fall once people start being fully vaccinated.

I can honestly say this. After my interview once I get back to my hotel room I’m going to cry for at lest an hr! I always seen the videos of ppl getting there green cards and never understood why they always cried. I 100% understand now.

Where can I see the visa statistics for last Month (April) showing the dip?, the below link has details only until March and it shows a healthy amount of processing for CR1 and IR1

edit: here is a video representation of me trying to use all the statistics available to us to try and predict IL dates, quantities, or movement of any kind. Pepe Silvia is the Montreal consulate 😂

For the police certificate, besides actually going back in person to get fingerprinted, there is no other way to renew it...right? Mine is expired too and I’m DQ’ed Oct 20 (and honestly, I highly doubt I’ll be in the next IL round).

Yeah I contacted the consulate- there is no renewal or extension, only re-doing it.

April is where we started seeing a decrease in appointments, but most of us are upset about appointment scheduling for May. The statistics only show visa issuance but not appointments. We will likely see the April stats posted in the next few weeks and then again we can better see the data. And then I’m sure we’ll see the drop in May when the statistics are posted in June. Not sure when they are typically posted.

adding a bit of light here - QC is doing an awesome job at keeping the cases lower/getting people vaccinated, they just moved the curfew to later.  Hoping this means good news for ILs this month :) We're DQ early Oct, hoping for good news for all of us :)

YESSS tswiftlover. We need to remain positive. This whole forum is merely speculation based on the info the embassy is giving us, which is inconsistent to say the least. I log on here every morning to see if there are any updates, and seeing some of the negative comments really messed with my head this morning. If we're going to speculate, let's keep it positive :) we're all going to get there eventually. <3

I'm not 100% sure, but they posted March on April 20th, so I would guess April would be around the same, the 20th of the month

Does anyone have experience with requesting an expedite? I got pregnant while waiting for the interview. With the way things were going it looked like we'd be okay, but with the recent slow-down, I'm now getting nervous that it'll be too close to my due date. I found info on where to send a request this morning, and now waiting on a note from my doctor.

Hello there,

From what I understand, pregnancy isn't grounds to expedite an IV interview, but you can certainly try and request it. You need to email the Immigrant Visa Unit at montreal-iv-dv@state.gov to request it. Montreal is very, very strict about granting expedites, so I wouldn't bet on getting it.

What you'd need to do is book an appointment for a CRBA (Consular Report of Birth Abroad) for your baby if you don't give birth within the US. This document proves that your baby is a US Citizen at birth on the basis your spouse's US Citizenship. Hope this helps!

APPROVED!!

My husband had his interview this morning at 10:30am. Like everyone else has stated, he was not let into the building a minute before his appointment time. Total time was just over 1 hour!

He brought his phone and checked it into a locker, brought in 2 binders with required paperwork in 1 and back up paperwork in the 2nd (we knew we were overprepared with paperwork but it calmed his nerves to have everything in hand).

He wore a button up shirt, slacks and dress shoes and said he felt slightly overdressed.

At the first window, he was asked for our marriage certificate, his birth certificate and police certificate (all original copies). We uploaded my 2020 tax return beforehand, so he was not asked for this at any point. They kept his police certificate and returned the others.

They gave him the pamphlet, but he was called to the next window before he finished reading it.

Questions he was asked:

  1. How and when we met
  2. What I do for a living and what I studied in school
  3. Longest stay in the US (he said 4 years for undergrad university with trips home to Canada for the holidays and summers, which they accepted - we weren't sure how to answer that one so hope that's helpful for anyone else in same boat)
  4. Previous US visas he has been on (he's been on a bunch of different US student & work visas so we were nervous about having all the proper documentation, but they did not ask for any paperwork, he just verbally went over the visas he's been on and general timing, but not exact dates)
  5. My US address and where we plan on living when he moves here

He said everyone was incredibly nice and eased his nerves big time. He was given the Welcome to US paper and said he'd receive passport back in up to 3 weeks, but of course hoping for sooner. :)

PS - we found it odd the address for the consulate wasn't listed in the interview letter and he had a mini panic attack about going to the right address, (we had the correct one from the FAQ page, but also saw a different address elsewhere on Google). Re-adding it here in case it's helpful to anyone else who has a last minute freak out like us.

Words can't express how thankful I am for everyone on this thread, especially @Hawk Riders for the invaluable information you've been so generous to make accessible to us all - truly any question I ever had was answered through this group. Looking forward to a lot less stress and facetimes after a long 7 years of long distance dating and marriage!

Congratulations @LG981 and to your hubby!

I'm a lurker here. My petition for my wife is still a few more stages before we get in this final stage "Applicant Interview". While waiting for the NVC to accept my payments and change to PAID the AOS and IV Bill, we are gathering now the required civil documents. I also already filled up the I-864EZ and made pdf file to be ready for uploading. Our next in line to work on is the RCMP Criminal Record Check which I will accompany my wife tomorrow. I have read from other forum whose some VJers had gotten a wrong Record Check and NVC rejected it. I will help my wife process everything while I'm still here in BC  & before I go back to US to avoid any possible mistake on getting a wrong RCMP Criminal Record Check. Hoping that we get the correct one and will be accepted with NVC.

Anyways again congratulations!

Thank you. And interesting. The information I found was from an immigration lawyer's website and it did list pregnancy as a valid reason. And the email I found was directly to the NVC, not to the consulate. Doesn't hurt to try both. It would suck if I have to give birth in Canada because my care provider is in the States (I was able to stay with my husband in the States on a visitor's visa/visa waiver).

I might be wrong, but an NVC expedite is to speed up the NVC processing, that is the review of your documents ahead of your case being made DQ'ed. A consulate expedite, or more correctly 'an emergency appointment' is made to the Consulate or Embassy that will be interviewing you. The onus is on them to scoop out your case from the DQ queue.

See the VJ opinion on Pregnancy Expedites here, btw:

Over the past couple of years there have been several pregnant Montreal couples with denied expedites. Montreal rarely expedites any situation.
