It won't affect you but please listen to my advice - if you have a visa - RUN TO THE BORDER. We are living in VERY UNCERTAIN TIMES. If you don't use your visa now, you may get stuck, there could be a new variant etc. Give a shorter notice if you can, or quit right away if you can. Please have your eye on he prize which is reuniting with your spouse in the U.S. Good luck!

I would agree that if you have a visa ready to use, I would suggest activating it at least and then wrapping stuff up in Canada, (though you'd need a negative PCR test to return), a returning LPR has stronger grounds than someone with an immigrant visa to enter the US. That being said, the US denying IV holders entry to the US at the land border would be unprecedented, this is more to reassure those here who are waiting on their IV's. At no point has the US denied entry to those with valid IVs at any point during the pandemic at the land border, and the grounds to deny entry to an IV holder are very limited if you examine the FAM.

Flights, however, are another matter as states can deny boarding to their own citizens...as Canada does to those symptomatic of Covid-19 or who lack a negative test.

I am surprised at lack of anger at sheer INADEQUACY of the Canadian government and administration. They picked a fight with Trump when they should've massaged his ego just so we can ensure vaccines. Picked a fight with India due to political reasons when we knew they would be producing the MOST NUMBER OF VACCINES in the world. Trudeau didn't even ask India for vaccines until opposition shamed him in to doing it. Now here is a quarantine for poor people (people making 200k USD a year would gladly pay 2k CAD 2-3 times a year if they absolutely have to, poor folks just can't). It is a shame to live right next door to U.S. for all their faults at least they look out for their own, and so far have avoided idiotic restrictions. This is just criminal. I am so pissed and sad. Wish more people were vocal about the pain caused by our government to us. We have become a joke to the world.

It feels like there isn't a unified movement to tackle the border. Everyone's fractured into small groups. There's Faces of Advocacy that represents families on the Canadian side and Let Us Reunite on the US side, then there's various small business groups and communities lobbying for it. I feel that if there was a unified pressure group that was organizing protests, putting pressure on MPs we would have more movement from the Canadian Government.

Hi Everyone

Hopefully youre doing good. I have an approved IR1 visa in my passport and currently finishing my notice period at work which is around May 19. It seems like white house is announcing ban from travel from India and since I have an Indian passport (i haven't been to India in last 3 years), do you think this ban will affect me?

Hoping to hear from people in similar situation. Thanks!

Also, right now DoS/WH has not announced any travel ban. But when/if they do, I would imagine that it would be in line with the PPs that cover Brazil, Iran, Schengen, UK and Eire which is that you're only subject to them if you have been in those countries within 14 days prior to attempted entry to the US regardless of foreign citizenship. So you should be fine. Hope that helps. :)

So seems like the ban is only for people who have been in India in past 14 days and spouses of US citizens are exempt. Anyways I am talking with my company to leave my job sooner rather than later to avoid any issues. Thank you!

I think someone mentioned in this thread earlier that the Montreal consulate started processing non-immigrant visas, but according to their website updated on April 26th, they are still processing only immigrant visas in the limited capacity... am I reading it wrong?

https://ca.usembassy.gov/embassy-consulates/consular-operations-updates/

Also, I'm a little surprised that they actually processed a lot more CR-1/IR-1 visas in March. The total number of CR-1/IR-1 visas issued for the past 6 months are actually increasing quite a bit. They are indeed prioritizing on our category. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/legal/visa-law0/visa-statistics/immigrant-visa-statistics/monthly-immigrant-visa-issuances.html

It's interesting that the pace is not necessarily corresponding to our tracker.... anyhow I hope they continue to accelerate this pace in CR-1/IR-1.

I'm praying that I'll receive an IL in the next batch... I'm DQ'ed on Sep 30th.

When i enter into the united states, i need to take a covid test 3 days prior. Delta said any covid test is fine but i can't really find any solid information online. can i get the free covid test here in quebec and be sufficient [they don't usually list the type of test used], or should i do a rapid antigenic test or a pcr test at a private clinic like i had to do when returning to canada?

Book a rapid test at the airport. The result take less than half an hour and I believe it costs $100

For people who are taking meds daily, did you just show up with these at your medical exam or did you have a letter from you doctor ? I'd like not to have to ask mine to write a letter to explain what I take (kind of of a hassle to book an appointment for this), since it's nothing special, under control and a pretty common prescription.

Dr. M in Toronto only asked for a list of medications. I didn’t have to bring a letter explaining them.

I noticed the same thing! If you compare mar 2019 to mar 2021, you'll see that they almost tripled the amount of CR1/IR1 cases they worked on! So we definitely should give the consulate some credit, they seem to really be trying hard to clear the backlog. I was surprised to find out that there were so many filers, wish they'd join our group. I'm interested to read the april 2021 stats to see if there's an explanation as to why so few of our group members got interview letters. I will post the results on here once they're up.

Also, I did notice that there are more visa categories that had interviews in March than in Jan/Feb. There may be a few new ones that appeared in april

I have a JEEP too that I am looking to import but when I try to check the VIN on https://www.mopar.com/en-us/my-vehicle/recalls/search.html it says "VIN not found. Please Try again.". Does it mean it's all good because there is no recalls or the VIN is wrong? (eventhough I am sure the VIN is correct).

So if you want to import your car all you need is a letter from the manufacturer that the car is up to usa standards. How about when you want to get it register with the USA licence do you need to rip it apart and change the kilometres into miles on the dashboard and install a tire pressure monitor on the dashboard as well ?

I did not import my car yet, so I am not sure all of this is required but will let you know once done.

Review DMV information for the state to which you are moving... different places, different regulations.
