Update:

Interview April 14th Approved

Visa arrived Richmond BC post office April 19th

Crossed at Peace Arch crossing April 20th

The Border people were very nice. I also imported my vehicle at the same time, which gave me about 1:15 minutes at the Border. There was pretty much nobody at the border crossing. Two other people came through secondary the entire time I was there and they have a big secondary.

My vehicle was a Jeep. The manufacturer emailed me a letter of compliance in one day. For a Jeep you can can get the recall info online with just your VIN. I also had the Bill of Sale. Vehicle was purchased new from Dealer in April 2020 and a copy of the check I wrote showing the Vehicle was paid in full.  No problems importing with those documents in hand.

I have a JEEP too that I am looking to import but when I try to check the VIN on https://www.mopar.com/en-us/my-vehicle/recalls/search.html it says "VIN not found. Please Try again.". Does it mean it's all good because there is no recalls or the VIN is wrong? (eventhough I am sure the VIN is correct).

I’m currently in my hotel room in Montreal waiting for my interview tomorrow morning. I took a walk to the consulate earlier today and I saw it inside the door and to the left of the RBC building. Do you just lineup right outside those RBC doors prior to your interview?

How did you travel to Montreal ?  I am travelling from Ottawa to Montreal next week and haven't heard anything current about any issues crossing from Ontario to Quebec.  Perhaps you came from another Province.

You need to check on the Mopar Canada link: https://www.mopar.com/en-ca/my-vehicle/recalls/search.html

Also read this: https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.dot.gov/files/documents/vig_canada09122017.pdf

Your vehicle will be a 2B import with the letter of compliance.

Call 1-888-242-6342 Fiat Chrysler Automobiles for the Letter of Compliance give them your email address as they will do all this by email and they will also move your VIN over to the US for warranty work.

Just show up right on time and go in to the inner doors and stand there. They are locked and they will come to the door to let you in. Don't go early as they will not let you in.

Hey, did your status change to final processing and if so when after the interview?

Yes it did. Interview on Wednesday and when I checked Friday morning it said Issued and final processing. I got the tracking number by email from Canada Post on Friday as well. Canada post said it would be delivered by end of day Wednesday but it was at the post office in Richmond on Monday. Canada Post sent me an email that it was ready for pickup Monday.  So it was pretty fast.

Anyone have any issues getting their SSN upon arrival? I just called SSA and found out that mine hadnt been issued or processed despite being checked off on my application. Given the experience I had crossing, I wasnt surprised if something didnt get done properly. I've been scanning posts and seeing most people in Washington receiving them within 7-14 days of arrival usually.

Any others able to chime in on this?

Had my interview this morning and was approved! It was about 90 minutes total. Lots of sitting around waiting. The questioning was minimal and only a couple minutes. I suggest talking to others in the room to help calm your nerves and make the time pass. We are all going through the same thing.

I took the train from Toronto to Montreal. And taking it back to Toronto again. No issues with the travel restrictions. VIA Rail says they aren’t checking and it’s just up to the traveler to follow the rules.

Plus our travel is essential so I’m sure if you are driving and just show your papers you will be fine.

I recommend staying at the Best Western nearby as it was less than 2 minute walk. Plus the hotel is familiar with the interviews and gave me a late checkout and also told me if I need to print anything last minute to let them know.

This forum has been so helpful! And that spreadsheet was invaluable for helping me estimate my interview date and plan my travel back and forth to see my spouse. Thank you!

Congrats! I plan on doing the same (train from Toronto to Montreal.) Did the train have WIFI? I'm contemplating not taking a day off work and just working remotely :P
