@aurmorr I haven't heard back from NVC yet, but I know I don't have to renew a police certificate from Japan because I haven't left Canada since I obtained it. But my guess is that I will have to renew a Canadian police certificate if the interview doesn't take place before its expiration. I don't want to risk it, so if I don't receive an IL in the next batch in early May, I think I will have to get a new one.

RedSeal Notary in Toronto seems to be operating under the current lock-down and I can get a Canadian police certificate through them, but there was a huge line when I walked by this week... ugh.

Oh ew they should be doing appointments at the least. I’m using Commissionaires in Ottawa and they’re appointment based right now- no way you can call ahead for an appointment?

I’m in the same boat though- I did email NVC to ask for clarification on if there were allowances for the dates due to COVID since I remember hearing something about that a few months ago- I just didn’t want it to apply to me so I didn’t pay attention at the time. I’ll let you know what/when I hear back. I really hope we are both in the next batch- we are only two weeks apart 🥺

When do you think they will send out the next batch of IL?

I think at this point, it’s impossible to rely on the trends. Since they reopened it was super sporadic and unpredictable until September, our VJ members didn’t see much movement in October at all- then we had Nov 16, Dec 11, Jan 18, Feb 4, mar 12, Apr 9. They normally release mid-month but the Feb 4 batch and the April 9 batch have been really strange. I think we’ve seen all we are getting for IL this month- everyone thought we would get more in feb and we didn’t, and the embassy took almost two weeks off for Easter so who knows.

I have tried setting realistic goals based on trends, but what does it matter if there is no pattern anymore. I should’ve been in next months batch but now I’ll just consider myself lucky to get an interview by the end of July or August. I’m so tired of getting my hopes up- I’m miserable. It’s been 186 days since my DQ and 481 days since I saw my wife and it’s destroying

Me. I can’t afford the hope anymore because the disappointment is too much.

Question for anyone who has had to fill in the Mental Health Questionnaire (or had to have one done for their child). Dr. Lee told me the consulate would be examining this document very closely. My pediatrician just sent it back with items checked and another copy of her letter attached. If anyone has had any interviews where this document was included in the medical records, please DM me if you don't want to discuss this in the forum. I'm concerned that my pediatrician's response may not contain enough information for them to provide approvals for my child to enter the US with me. Thanks.

I totally understand your pain. I had my hopes up in Feb and early Mar when the covid case count was trending down, thinking that the consulate might accelerate the pace of interviews... and then the 3rd wave hit in the worst timing. It really broke our spirit as we've been mentally on the edge for so long. We did everything we can do within our power to make it work, but our fate is at the mercy of luck and the consulate now.

I’m currently in my hotel room in Montreal waiting for my interview tomorrow morning. I took a walk to the consulate earlier today and I saw it inside the door and to the left of the RBC building. Do you just lineup right outside those RBC doors prior to your interview?

Just planning a bit ahead:

1. Does anyone have a recommendation for tax planner /expert specializing in cross border planning/ tax filing ?

 2. Once visa is approved is it possible to cross via land or is via airport advisable when crossing the first time ?

3. Anyone have recommendations for moving companies for cross border moving of Luggage? Covid makes this more challenging

thank you

Not sure about the first 2, but for the cross border moving company, Mayflower is who we are going with. They pack for you, take care of customs forms for you (all while you are home) and gas is included in their price. They're great! :) https://www.mayflower.com/get-a-quote

Visa in hand! Courier was delayed by one day, visa was issued April 15th.

They also returned original police clearance from my birth country, but not Canadian one. I do have a copy of it, but I was under impression that I should be getting original back. I hope it will not be an issue at the POE, which is planned for May 1st

POE - you just need that visa in your passport.  All the leg work has been done between USCIS and DOS.  CBP are activating your PR at that point, so there shouldn't be much interrogation.
