Hi everyone, we are prepping for our interview in May and ran into two potential complications we aren't sure what to do about.

1) We called everywhere around us for passport photos here in Windsor, Ontario, and nobody seems to be allowing them because they "aren't essential." Can we bring our own photos to the interview?

and

2) Our marriage certificate was lost during a move and we think movers may have tossed the stack. We've replaced all other papers but this one is bringing issues. We ordered a new one in the States to be shipped to a family member in Michigan to then remail to Windsor. After waiting over a month, the courthouse reached out and said it was bounced back because it's a government document and the person whose name it is under must be there to accept it. The problem with this is that the family members that would be accepting it all work during mail hours. And I was told I can't cross the border unless I'm actually going home (my car has Texas plates so it would be obvious if I said I was going home and then I'm hitting the system again the same day or the day after when we aren't supposed to be traveling as-is) so I can't just go pick it up myself.

We are at a loss on both of these and what options there are available. We do have copies of the marriage cert, but not the original. And we never rushed the passport photos because reading on the immigration subreddit everyone kept saying they are considered essential and that any Shoppers can do it. All of them here, however, say otherwise.

Im guessing you are the American spouse.

First of all, you most definitely can go across to Michigan and do what ever the F you want lol. You are American, you do not need an essential travel reason to enter your Country. And even if you don't believe me, because the Canadian news media has made everyone believe certain things, My husband goes across every few months to the cigar lounge and to check our PO Box and he has gotten a 2 week mandatory isolation coming back to Ontario the first 2-3 times but that’s it,  btw on the last entry he actually didn’t agree with it, and nobody actually called him during those 2 weeks so im guessing there is also a loophole regarding that quarantine just so you know.

The only thing you need to proof to a Canadian border officer is a valid reason to come into Canada to which:

By being married to a Canadian you are allowed to enter..

at the end of the day legal paperwork is essential.

There was a Canadian officer on his way out of Ontario that last time, that asked him his reason for leaving and he just said  “ I am American”.  And kept on going.
and coming back he just said he lives in Ontario and went to get his mail. Nothing they can do about it.

Has anyone else seen the monthly immigrant visa issuance statistics on the travel.state.gov site? This was my first time seeing it so I don't know if I'm reading it right, but it seems like there were over 200+ CR1/IR1 visas issued in both Jan/Feb 2021! Is that normally how many there are? For Jan, we only had about 25 cases reported here. As much as I'd like to believe that maybe they'll send more IL letters this month/there are less cases that DQd after Nov, its starting to feel unlikely? Who knows though! Just thought I'd share this discovery.

We got approved!  Same experience and questions as most on here, the interview officer was very nice and professional.  Some tips we found that could be helpful are listed below.

Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather outside if you arrive early.
The front entry guard will come out and ask for the next timeslot people.
A medium size (13" x 9") purse was allowed.  We saw a backpack get denied entry.
They did not scan the barcode on the DS260 IL, just looked up her passport and checked off a list.
Make sure you know how to turn off your phone before it goes in the locker!

When getting out of the elevator and directed to Window 6, it is a bit around a corner, on the other side of a pillar.  The guard nearby can direct you.

Once you have the number ticket, sit where you can see the TV monitor and listen for the "BONG" to see the number change.

It is very quiet in the room, except for a few interviews happening.  So you can hear questions being asked of others, and this can be distracting while waiting.

At the second window, they only asked for original documents, not copies.  And the passport pic they only needed 1, scanned it, and handed it back.  They kept the original documents at this window.

At the actual interview window, the officer had the original documents, and these were returned at the end of the interview.  They kept the passport so it can be processed and sent back later.

During the interview, the officer would ask a question, and then he would type, and look up some things on his screen.  You're not having to maintain constant eye contact since he is looking at the computer some of the time.  This felt less nerve-wracking this way.  So, not constant questions and answers during the 10-15 minutes interview.

All the people working there were wearing nice office casual attire, and the guards had nice uniforms.

Hey Guys,

A quick question.

I am a little confused while registering for visa appointment. Which options from the following i have to select for registering visa appointment?

Option#1: I have received a Consular interview appointment date from the National Visa Center (NVC) or the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) and I have been instructed to register my appointment on this site.

Option#2: I have received a letter/email from the consular section with instructions to register or schedule a K (Fiancé(e)/Spouse/Child) visa appointment.

Is this option#2?

Option 1 appears to be what you want to select unless you are doing a k visa which option 2 looks like

The mention of spouse on Option 2 probably is connected to the effectively defunct K3 category for nonimmigrant spouses of US citizens intending to adjust status in the US. DoS issues very, very, few K3 visas as USCIS will hold the I-129F for K3 while adjudicating the I-130 and will administratively close the I-129F when approving the I-130. Therefore it is effectively not possible to get the K-3..which sucks if you ask me.

I would hazard a guess and say that Option 1 is the one you need.

registering for visa appointment...

It's in the FAQ:

What option do I select when registering for the return courier?

“I have received a letter/email from the consular section with instructions to schedule an immigrant visa appointment.”

but maybe the FAQ needs a language update, @DGF?
