Pertaining to this question: is anyone on here also planning on keeping their Canadian bank account after crossing and moving

I was hoping to keep at least one savings account open and have my parents attached to it, for a little while anyways. I do want to look into any tax/red tape issues that could be associated with it though.

I’m planning on the same thing. Have an account with zero monthly fees would be perfect. If not then I guess it’ll be switched to American currency and taken with me. Fingers crossed for interview letters to go out this week! 🤞

Same here.... plus a credit card with really good credit and high limit that took years to build so I dont really want to give that up in case I need to use it. If anyone has had any experience with still keeping their Canadian account or accounts please speak up! 🙂
I anticipate the next batch to go out the week of 12 or 13 but well see 😊

Yes, we'll be keeping a couple checking accounts live for Canadian bills (life insurance, car payment and insurance (until we decide what to do with it)).  My understanding so far is file the FBAR stuff with the US treasury.  Also keeping RRSP's in place, but not contributing as no gain from doing that.

It might be a ignorant question... I know I will be asked to present my birth certificate and passport at the interview, how about my petitioner's birth certificate and a copy of  his passport? Has anyone been asked to show them at the interview?

Hi! I took a copy of my husband's/petitioners birth certificate and passport but I wasn't asked for it at the interview.

Does anyone knows current wait times after DQ for CR1 visa interview in Montreal.

If you look at the chart @Hawk Riders made, you'll see what the average wait is these days. Most of us waiting for the next batch of interviews were DQ'd in August/September 2020. No time difference between CR1 and IR1.

I do cross border and am pleased to have kept mine since I did have to go back to Canada for 18mo.  You have to file an FBAR if there's ever over $10K in your accounts.

Please fill out your timeline as per the instructions in @Hawk Riders profile.  Please read the FAQ's as well.

Hi everyone, this might be a strange question but once we activate the visa, will gov of Canada be notified in any way? Also, upon going back to Canada to visit, how will we be treated at customs? Are we still considered a Canadian dual citizen or an American?

You're a Canadian citizen with American Permanent Residency.  You need to enter Canada on your Canadian passport and return to the US with your green card.  You will still be subject to all quarantine measures, etc while this covid business continues.
