How'd it go today @Kaleigh11?

Sorry, picked up passport/visa on March 22/Monday.

Been selling allll my things on facebook marketplace and man it's a full time job -_-.

Decided I'm going to try and cross via air with all my belongings, I don't have enough stuff to use a shipping company (upack quote was $2846), and dont really want to deal with ups/fedex shipping a few boxes and the paperwork that goes with it, as well as not trusting them to ship everything in one piece.

I am thinking to do the same after my interview but maybe I will need to come back for few days after activating my visa for any reason related to my condo rental. Do you think it will be an issue to go back for a week or 2 to Canada after activating my visa or thats normal?

Pretty sure you will have to quarantine. Even if you just go to activate your visa and return you will have to quarantine.

I haven't really looked into this as I don't plan on returning, maybe others can chime in.

It would probably be fine in other times, but remember quarantine stuff. If you go to the States and then back to Canada, you will still have to quarantine.

I see, but from US Immigration point of view does it looks bad to leave the country short time after activating the visa?

No problems, but things to keep in mind as per the FAQ:

"Can I cross to activate my visa and then return to Canada and do a full move later?

Yes. But note that the moment you cross the border you are a resident of the US and not of Canada. You will not be covered by your Canadian healthcare and will need travel insurance (Canadian healthcare can be quite expensive if you are not a resident). This is because you have to be moving permanently when you activate your visa. Crossing to activate your visa and then going home isn't technically allowed even though we do see it happen. Moving permanently but then visiting to tie up loose ends is allowed, but is not enough to satisfy the requirements to keep healthcare.

There are also tax implications if you are still working in Canada during this time and it is best to involve an accountant. The date you activated your visa will be your departure date for the CRA and not the date that you do your final move."

It's totally ok. There are people here who activated their visa and came back to Canada for a few weeks to cut loose ends.

You also have the right to be outside of the US (there's a limit I don't know, maybe 6 months or so) to travel for example.

I would be more  concerned about the quarantine in Canada and the 2000$ hotel bill, if still in place when you do it.

And finally, once the visa is activated, you are a US resident. And as such you are taxed differently, on the sale of your condo for exemple, but I don't know the details.

About: 212(g)(2)(B), I found that is related to Vaccination but just wanted to make sure.

Did anyone else had this Annotation ? Any specifics I have to do before I cross the border ?

I know this has already been answered but I just wanted to add that I also had that annotation and had no issues at POE, nor did I have to do anything special. I've added this to the FAQ as it seems like it's not an infrequent occurrence.

Exactly this. Even just going to the border only for the 30 minutes or so it would take to do your paperwork and then turn around back into Canada, you'll be expected to have a valid negative PCR test taken within 72 hours, plus do the 2 week quarantine and home tests. It's a bit ridiculous, but unfortunately it has happened.

Thank you for the info, yes understood. What about if I want to keep my canadian job and work remotely for few months until I find a job in the US? is that ok?

I'm not sure about that, I think it's just gonna be more complicated for the taxes that's it. Also, as someone mentioned, you will loose your canadian health insurance since technically, you won't be a canadian resident anymore.

We actually thought about that too for the job, and decided I would just quit my job before I activate the visa, so we don't have to deal with all this.

Yes you will have to quarantine. We went to the Peace Bridge crossing to activate my husband’s visa, we were there for about 30-45 minutes and crossed back into Canada afterwards and had to quarantine for the two weeks. You have to install the ArriveCan app on your phone and they send you a report daily to fill out during your quarantine.

But.... since then they’ve imposed showing a negative Covid test that has to be done in the US 72 hours before returning so I don’t know how that will work.

My husband received his passport yesterday (March 23) after getting approved on the 12th. Hoping he will be here sometime next week! 🙂

I guess will have simply to do it in Canada 2 days before and go activate the visa and back same day while using the same PCR Test.
