I need some help. So my daughter could possibly we born before my husbands interview date. If she was born like the day before or something, would he seriously need her birth certificate?? I was looking through the checklist and it says he needs any children's birth certificates even if they arent immigrating. My husband obviously wont be there for her birth and I couldn't get him her birth certificate for a long time because I need her original one. Do you think they would be understand because of this?? 😭

I would suggest calling the call center. When you go to this website  https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Supplements/Supplements_by_Post/MTL-Montreal.html#pre_interview_checklist, on the right it says "call center". click on the link and it will take you new website with a bunch of phone numbers - I dialed the montreal one. They can help direct you there. For my case, the lady who picked up my call went into my case file and sent me the email that had instructions for sending in my missing documents and she also told me to email the consulate for my birth cert case. She was quite nice and helpful.

Great, thank you so much! I had no idea that Montreal actually could answer the phone lol

Has the Consulate requested any documentation?  Do you have your login for the CEAC website to check messages and upload documents, as mentioned by @betzzymathew?  It seems rather strange to mail anything these days, especially without explicit requests from the Consulate with instructions.

Also, even though this is a IR/CR forum, can you please fill out your VJ timeline?  It's helpful on many fronts.

Montreal has not allowed spouses for nearly 2 years.  Argue if you like, but those that have interviewed know this is how it is.  They barely allow the interviewees into the door!

I agree with Darth. This is so weird that Montreal consulate doesn't allow u.s. citizens spouse. I can't go with my husband, but whatever...works for us. But my sister and her husband had their interview together in the U.S. every consulate works differently I guess. But it's not a big deal for us. And it's actually better because I get to stay home and handle my little one while my husband conveniently flies by himself for the interview.

Keep the interview appointment. Explain that you have ordered new police certificate. You will get a 221g for the Canadian police certificate, which you can upload after the interview (the 221g letter will tell you how and where to upload it). You will have to wait a bit after submitting the police certificate for visa approval (could be a few days or few weeks), but cancelling the interview would also result in waiting, and if the interviews are suspended again you may have to wait a long time. Keeping the current interview seems most prudent thing you can do.

Thank you for the good advice. We kept the appointment. It's next Friday...and we received the police certificate this week as well. So fingers crossed for the interview. One thing....my husband and I both were born in India but moved here while we were young. Our birth certificates don't show our name, but our parents name. Does anyone have experience with this? We were thinking of taking our old Indian passport that links us to our parents, since the passport back page shows our parents names. And that way we can link our birth certificate to our names. Any thoughts?

 Any thoughts?

First thought: this is very last-minute to be asking. In a perfect world you would have sorted this out long before now.

Second thought: propose the inquiry in the India/Asian forum section as well, where people may have more parallel experience.

I had my medical with Dr. Lee as well. I spent a total of 3hrs between Dr. Lee's office, lab and x-ray. It was such a waste of time! And I would have been able to cut that time significantly if I knew some things before hand.

Quick tips:

1. The lab downstairs is Life labs. Book an appointment on their site (perhaps you can choose an hour after Dr. Lee's appointment or something like that). They attend to people with appointment before walk-ins (even if your appointment time is still about 30mins away). Though you're from Dr. Lee, you are still considered a walk-in (My experience). They had lots of people the day I went so I eventually had to go on their website to book an appointment while I went to the basement for x-ray.

2. You can also call the x-ray folks ahead to book an appointment since they also attend to people with appointment first (I had to wait for about 30mins for my turn)

If I knew these before my appointment, I think I would have been able to cut the entire visit by at least half.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Thank you very much.  Very helpful.  I do have a Life Labs Acct and made an appointment with them.  Do you have a name or contact for the X-Ray place ?  Is it also Life Labs ?

Hey everyone,

So here’s the dilemma I’m having. My interview is April 21st and my second wedding anniversary is June 2nd. If everything goes smooth at my interview and I get approved I should get my passport back around end of April early May. I really don’t want to spend an extra 4-5 weeks separated from my wife but at the same time I’ve heard that removal of conditions is a huge headache with the 2 year greencard where if I wait 4-5 weeks I’ll get a 10 year greencard. Anybody who has any info on the difficulty or stress of filing for ROC on a 2 year greencard, or anybody who has any opinion on whether I should cross or wait it out please feel free to let me know what you’d do in my situation!

My husband and I are in the same position with similar dates to yours (though my interview will likely be in early May). We are going to wait the extra few weeks as well. As hard as it will be to wait it out after such a long time apart, it makes the most sense. It also gives us some structure to help us feel more grounded with all the uncertainty we've all been living with, and more time to get organized and ready for the big shift.

Wondering if anyone knows the answer to this - I will be moving back to California from Vancouver, BC with my daughters, we are U.S. citizens, while we wait for my husbands Visa to be approved. Can I drive across and just import the car when we get to California? Or does it have to be done at a border crossing? I know there are Customs offices in Los Angeles where we will be, but I'm unsure if I can import at a later time. I just don't want the hassle of going to secondary with two littles under 2 years old. I have all my documentation and the car will be fine to import, I'm just trying to avoid the drama with the kids.

Thanks!

Birth certificates are issued by municipal bodies in India. As such, different bodies have different formats. Most likely, Montreal would not know enough to give you trouble on the birth certificates since even in India there are several formats. Having said that, if you have time, try to see if the Indian consulate can issue a birth certificate on a short notice, if not, take Indian high school marksheets/passport (as you said)/any other Indian document you can think of that mentions your parents name (aadhar card?). With luck, you would be absolutely fine. Worst case, you may have to get a new birth certificate and upload after interview. But again, given Montreal doesn't know much about Indian formats, India has multiple formats, you have secondary corroborating proof etc. my guess is you will be fine. Whatever you have, take it go in with a clear plan on what to say (only if asked, please don't volunteer any information or try to explain anything if not asked for) and say it with confidence. Good luck! We all wish you well!

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone went through this marriage based immigration process through a lawyer? if so, did your lawyer have to provide something called G28 form? please let me know because I see it mentioned on page 7 of i-864 AOS form (the section asking if an attorney helped preparing the form) but my lawyer seems not to have an idea about it.

Note: I wasn't asked for it at NVC level but I am scared I will be asked at the interview if required.

Thank you!

I have lawyer representation and after a quick google search I found that the g28 form is for a lawyer to fill out to legally be your representative. I have no idea if my lawyer filled this out and am not too worried as their name is on all the documents and payments provided to uscis and nvc. Have you been dq yet?

Yes I have been DQ'ed and my interview is on April 07. I am asking because my wife updated her address and work and Iwant to upload a new AOS form with the new address and work info. This is the first time I pay attention to it honestly and I am just worried if ai bring the new AOS form on the interview day they would ask for the G28 which I dont have..

QUESTION REGARDING PETS:

Hi everyone,

I was originally supposed to fly with my cat from Toronto (YYZ) to California when I made my POE but I wanted to wait to move and settle before I brought him over (he has a bit of anxiety with change). I just found out all pet cargos are currently not operating. I really need my cat here since he is with my family right now.

Does anyone know if my sister comes to the Buffalo border and she waits on the Canada side, I can cross over take my cat and enter back into the USA without the quarantine restriction. I'm sure this is an odd case and no one experienced this but please let me know. Also - I was told I only need a health certificate to enter with my pet, any other documents?

Hey, so I had a similar experience when I flew to Detroit, had my friend drive me to the border, and my brother was able to come across to secondary to get us without having to quarantine when he returned. I would suggest you call the Buffalo customs office to find out exactly what you can do. When I called Detroit, I was planning on taking the bridge but was told they could only do that at the tunnel at that time. I don't know if it depends who's on duty or what, but call to get exact instructions on what to do.
