I am a US and Canadian citizen, I sponsored my husband for canada and  the US-he got his canadian PR last Nov and I have been here with him since  (in Toronto.) We finally got our interview date for March 8 in Montreal. We have one child (2 yrs old), I am a teacher but am just doing supply teaching, my father who we will be living with when we move is an Household member who I added since i dont make enough income.

I just want to make sure we are prepared for the interview and am a bit nervous as only my husband can go in and not me and my son.

Is there anything else we need to bring in or upload to CEAC before the interview? I am still waiting for my 2019 tax transcripts, i have received my fathers and uploaded those. I have also uploaded my sons birth cert, he was born in the US. Do i still need to upload whats app messages and pictures.

We have a joint account here in Canada, do we need to show proof of that? or paystubs? Any other tips/advice would be much appreciated! Thank you

So you are planning to qualify based on co-sponsor? Does your father have a job in the U.S. or is he retired?

Also, if you are planning to live with your father, please draft a legal lease (rent could be $0 or symbolic $1), but as long as the lease is a valid, binding lease as per the sate tenancy laws, CO will accept it.

Good luck!

Can anyone who has done POE at Pearson in Toronto within the last year or so tell me if you should check your baggage before going through immigration? I know normally you check your baggage before customs, but I'm not sure if it's different when you're activating a visa (since they may want to search your bags etc.). I don't want to check my luggage and then find out I wasn't supposed to. I have searched Visajourney to find the answer, but I'm seeing somewhat conflicting info.

There is an option to "Add a Document" under either your "Civil Documents" or under your petitioners "Affidavit of Supporting Documents & Financial Evidence"

Don't forget to click "submit" after uploading.

This might be a dumb question, but if we're doing POE at an airport, then do we need to bring a form listing the possessions we've packed? I plan on bringing a few large suitcases with me on my first POE flight, and getting the rest of my stuff shipped later this year. The FAQ mentions only land borders re. preparing a list of your items.

One other question: should we bring all the documents we brought to our interview so that it's handy during the POE? I mean the tax returns, proof of relationship, marriage certificate, that stuff. I'll bring mine but I don't know if it's okay for me to put it in my checked luggage, or if I'll need to have it handy in my carry-on bag at immigration.

I would NEVER put documents that verify identity, etc in a checked bag. Always carry them with you, identity theft is real and some baggage handlers are dodgy af. I’ve been hustled in the airport by handlers “hey if you slip me $100 you won’t have to pay the overweight bag fee.” Hard pass, thanks.

Hello, Arrived to the States yesterday, POE: Toronto Pearson International(YYZ). Everyone was nice and took around 1 hour to process everything. The airport was completely empty, which saved me a lot of my time. Please be aware about the COVID-19 Test (USA now requires COVID-19 negative test report to board the flight). Everything was smooth otherwise. Thanks for everything this forum has offered.

About SSN, Do I have to apply somewhere or it will just arrive at the same address of my GC? Thanks!

Did you tick the box on your DS-260 for them to generate one for you or not? If you did, there’s a 70/30 chance you’ll have it mailed. If not, you’ll have the joyous experience of dealing with the SSA! Welcome to America!

My and my younger child’ case were DQed on 18th August. Whereas my older child’ case who is now 16 yrs old was DQed on 5th September. We also have submitted a letter requesting scheduling of the interview at the same time.

Should we expect IL based on 18th Aug or 5th Sep?

@DGF, @Hawk Riders do you know anyone dealt with similar situation ?

Should be August 18 as you’re the primary.

That's a good point, thanks. The accordion folder is huge and won't fit in my backpack, but I'll just bring a carry-on sized suitcase that I can keep it in.

Anyone who recently got their packet 4, can you please confirm if the Canadian police certificate is valid for one year or six months?

Check the FAQ; this query is too-frequently presented.

It is from India and the municipality office gave it laminated only. Its very common there.

Anyways, I have arranged to get a new one without lamination.
Now they have change the format of the certificate. If I bring the new one to the interview, it wont be "exact" match with what I have uploaded along with my DS-260.
What to do in this condition?

Did you upload the new one along with DS-260?

@VIR CHAMP yes we did

i'm currently in the u.s, as a CAN citizen for spousal reunification, as i've not been with my husband for over a year. i've been here since december, and i return to canada in March for my interview in April. i've been following these covid restrictions and yeah, cool that's fine, but i've found nothing about a CAN cit returning FROM spousal reunification in the us.... but plenty about measures in place for us spouses or etc wanting to come into canada.... my husband and i don't have 2k for a three day hotel stay upon my return to canada, and we reunited prior to all these restrictions.... is spousal reunification exempt? or does anyone have any information concerning this?

right answered my own question. found the arrivecan customer service number. called and spousal reunification is not exempt from paying for the hotel + covid test upon arrival. the costs of such things will be posted on the arrive can website on the 18th of this month... feel like i'm being punished for going to see my husband. really sucks, cause this is money that we didn't expect to pay, because this stuff wasn't even being spoken off when i departed canada back in nov/dec....

There are no exemptions for anyone regarding the mandatory quarantine coming back into Canada. We are both in Canada and drove to the US border last week to activate my husbands GC, we were in US customs for all of 30 minutes and crossed right back into Canada afterwards. We are now having to do a mandatory 14 day quarantine just for being on the US side for that short time. They follow you via an app as well. We are getting daily texts to check on us and someone else I know is getting phone calls to check on them.

That is not true. There are exemptions, just none based on family reunification. As an example someone driving across the border to pick up and then leave with their child to satisfy a custody arrangement is considered essential and is exempt from all quarantine rules.

I did the 14 day quarantine in September and in January.  The process is much more stringent now than it was in the fall, it seems.  In the fall they messed up on the dates for me: I had to (politely) argue on two separate occasions with government callers about what my arrival date in Canada was, and one of those calls was on quarantine day 18!  There was also no required daily self-reporting of symptoms.  Last month I was reminded daily to self-report my health, and was called more frequently.  In addition, many people have reported receiving in-person visits from LE to check on quarantine compliance, though I didn't receive such a visit during either of my quarantines.

The hotel quarantine is mandatory for everyone arriving by air.  The only exceptions are the usual "essential worker" ones and people are escorted from the airport to the quarantine hotel.  Anyone wanting to avoid the hotel quarantine should enter the country by a land point of entry, and I hope they'd comply with the 14 day quarantine.

It's honestly a bit ridiculous. My bigger concern now is will we have to have a negative test just to be able to re-enter Canada if we're only going to the border to activate the visa? And then also pay to take the test at the border and then again 10 days later... I understand why these rules were put in place but it's ridiculous that no one's considered the edge cases of various situations and circumstances. And how long will this be in place for? The rest of the year?

Anyway... I got my purolator notice of shipment on Friday. Estimated delivery should be today but I don't see that it's moved outside of Quebec yet. Fingers crossed I get it soon. I feel naked without my passport!
