But an assault on elected officials is not about the individuals affected (I'm not going to cry over Mike Pence for example). It's an assault on the will of the people who elected them. This is how dictatorships start. You can't have a functioning democracy if elected leaders are violently removed. It's even worse that the assault happened because the mob wanted Congress to overturn the results of a democratic election. This is crossing a very serious line that I honestly never thought would be crossed in the US. I'm glad the coup failed but the fact that insurgents could get inside the building is horrifying.

So only Congress matters?  You do know we have three branches of government and the terrorist in Portland were attacking people representing two of the three branches.  Yeah, not sure anyone should defend or justify political violence with the intent of overthrowing the government regardless of where it happens.  That is called terrorism regardless of the underlying cause.

Did I say that? No, I didn't. But Congress is still a much bigger deal than a federal courthouse.

No, the folks in Congress are not more special than anyone else in the country.  They should not be attacked, but they are just ordinary folks doing a job like the officers in the courthouses and police stations.  You said you wanted proof that BLM was a terrorist organization, since you seem to acknowledge the attacks perpetrated by them in an attempt to change the US government, there is your proof.

A person that truly despised domestic terrorism wouldn't have a problem with identifying this for what it is and their desire to maintain a peaceful society would be unmistakable.

You didn't give me any reputable sources. 

 

The folks in Congress are not more special (Ted Cruz and Mitch Mcconnell are not good human beings) but attacking them is more serious than attacking people in other institutions. They hold the highest elected offices in the country. I already explained why this is more significant than attacking any other building, yes, even federal courthouses. 

 

BTW, did BLM try to abduct an elected official? Were they trying to find a high ranking official and hang him?

There are plenty of sources regarding the riots that have been going on since May 2020, feel free to review the recently closed thread, or use your favorite search tool (mine is DuckDuckGo) and simply search for Portland, or Minneapolis, or Kenosha, or Seattle, etc. riots.  Again, there are not degrees here, an attack on a federal courthouse in Portland with government officials inside for the purposes of creating political terror is no different than attacking the Capitol in DC with federal officials inside.  Neither are acceptable, and both are means of creating terror.  I am not aware of BLM trying to abduct anyone, but they certainly were trying to kill federal officials, and they definitely succeeded in harming many and in some cases permanently, but feel free to keep justifying it.

That's a really neat debating trick.  I wish I had known about it earlier.  Someone can just randomly decide for everybody else that one act of violence is worse than another.  Then, if only one group did that particular act, then that's the evil group.

 

BLM rioters tried to burn a building with people inside.  Did Trump rioters do that?  No.  Then BLM rioters are worse.  Why?  Because I said so.

 

How about the extremists on both sides got out of control and cooler heads need to prevail.

 

I kind of think it's more important that the country come together, at least a little, instead of constantly just trying to make sure my side wins.
