Make sure you contract those who voted to defeat it to thank them (positive reinforcement), and that you flaunt to those who didn't. I will be calling Sen. Ken Salazar's staff a few times this week to gloat and to remind them that I will vote, but not for him!

I did send Feinstein an email a few weeks ago, discussing my displeasure with this bill. I deleted her reply but it was all, blah blah blah, it is NOT amnesty but a blah blah blah. BS!

Not surprising both CA senators voted yea.

I will perservere!

That is sooooo gooood!!! I find it interesting that it is being characterized as a "defeat for Bush". It is a defeat for Bush and the dems. It just so happens that Bush lost his mind (I know, most of you think he never had one. :P ) and sided with Kennedy and company. But thats OK, this damn thing is dead and that is the important thing.

the Dems...look at the #s bro gary..8 gop voted yea..12 dems voted no..it is a defeat for the gop

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Maybe so. I was reading that 1.5 years is not enough time for GWB to try again. Seems strange but we can hope!

-------

The president, who visited the Capitol this month to push hard for overhauling the nation's immigration laws, delivered a brief statement shortly after the vote saying he was "sorry" Congress could not reach agreement, calling its "failure to act" a "disappointment." (addemdum: )

"Congress really needs to prove to the American people that it can come together on hard issues," Bush said.

The bill aimed to create a path to citizenship for some of the 12 million illegal immigrants and to toughen border security.

Explaining his reasons for voting against the bill, GOP Sen. Jeff Sessions, a leading critic of the measure, said "it would not work."

"Our analysis was that it would result in 8.7 million more people in the next 20 years here illegally," said the Alabama senator.

Thursday's vote represented a "sad day for America," said Democratic Sen. Charles Schumer of New York.

"Everyone knows that our immigration laws are broken," Schumer said. "And a country loses some of its greatness when it can't fix a problem that everyone knows is broken. And that's what happened today."

Supporters and opponents of the controversial legislation said that it probably won't be resurrected until after the 2008 elections.

I don't get it. It didn't pass only thanks to GOP - good to know they still have some common sense left.

Hurray for preserving the status quo....

The status quo is bad. This bill would have been even worse. If you are driving with two wheels on the edge of a cliff, that is bad. Turning towards the cliff edge would be worse. Given those two choices, I'll take the status quo.
