-lurking in-

I just returned from Odessa, TX last Tuesday, to finally meet my online boyfriend. We're engaged now🥰 I had to take a test prior to leaving Texas as I live in Canada and they stipulated the test as a requirement to board the flight home. I'm back and currently in quarantine. Canada has very strict requirements to self check-in, daily, during the 14 days. 2 days ago I actually got a call from the "covid police".

I really want to return and marry my Love, yet know it will require 4 weeks total of quarantine on either end of the trip. I just cannot afford that scenario, so I'm hoping as quickly as things change, there will somehow be a way that things will lessen before I return again much later since sooner is not an option with all these mandates.

Realistically, I'll need the minimum of 6 weeks to go, return to Texas and marry, then come back, so he can start the immigration process.

Congrats on finding your love ❤️

This is just insane. I am so sorry you have to go through this :/!

What does the covid-police say when they call?

What happens of you test positive, who pays for your extra expenses if they won't let you board a plane despite the inaccuracies and inabilities of said test?

What if you don't pick up?

p.s.: I wish you guys get your interview fast and master it successfully :D

They just ask you how you're feeling, let you know what day of quarantine you're on, and remind you you can't go anywhere. I got 2 calls from Federal Public Health and 2 from Ontario Public Health.

If you don't pick up, they call back. If you don't pick up within a certain time frame, they send someone to your house to check to see if you're there - usually the RCMP. I'm not even joking. With the ArriveCan app, they also track your phone, so they can follow your movements.

As for your questions above, if you get sick and can't travel, that's the risk you take and you better have good travel insurance. You're not allowed to come back until your test is negative.

Thank you ☺️

I appreciate your kind words. It's actually harder now seeing him online. I really want to be with him yet know to do this the legal way, I must wait and endure like everyone else, believing this will make the reunion that more special once its all approved!

This is what the lady asked me. I must admit I was a bit nervous and gave my address number mixed up!

*What's the address where you are?
*Is this your DOB?
*Are you experiencing any symptoms since you returned or today?
*Do you have enough supplies and food for the duration of your quarantine?
*I'll send you a link and two numbers you can call for any questions you may have.

You know, I thought about that. What if I tested positive? I left Canada a few short days after they implemented the need for a negative test prior to boarding the flight to Texas. I tried to not let it dampen my trip and it didn't.

The latest that Prime Minister Trudeau is saying is ticking me right off! Cancel any travel plans and no Spring Break? If people leave the country and return they may have to quarantine at a hotel and not transit home? 🤨

What if you don't consent to installing an app on your phone?

And if you do consent, how do they track that if you are offline?

What of you don't even have a cell phone (there is quite a few people who don't)?

No, I didn't mean being sick,  I meant just getting a positive result. So being heathy/having no symptoms but getting a positive test result.

But I assume it would be the same outcome :/.

You MUST install the ArriveCan app on your phone before you board. They won't let you on the plane without it. I know there are people without cell phones. My husband is one of them. You have to complete paperwork if you don't have one.

Are you Canadian by chance? The details are all at the Government of Canada website about the procedure to return and the requirements. This is only for Canada.

I agree 100% with @laylalex. I will trust scientists and medical experts, not random internet rumors or conspiracies. COVID is a real threat and I will do my part to keep others safe and healthy.  If that means getting tested and quarantined, I will. Imperfect tests and precautions are not 100% foolproof, but are far better than not doing anything at all.

We're all making sacrifices. We've all been inconvenienced, in terms of time, money, and separation from our loved ones. I'm separated from my partner too. It's hard. I empathize with those who are also separated. But this worldwide health crisis is much, much bigger than any of our personal problems.
