Perhaps there are also people that want to go back before 1870. That may also be a problem.

I'm sure there are far, far fewer than what the media would like you to think.  Some people have placed 75 million voters in that category.

I agree there has been progress, but a country that was founded on injustice needs to eradicate bias to move forward. It is still far from the idealistic (and hypocritical) statement of "all men are created equal". Asserting that people that have been discriminated against have equal opportunity is not true. People are still living with the consequences of slavery and genocide and the attitudes that justified that are still prevalent.

There is no perfect country.  If someone fails to take advantage of the opportunities which are available, the blame falls on them.  I am not responsible for the actions of people hundreds of years ago.

1870- 15th Amendment

1920- 19th Amendment

1964- 24th Amendment

You left out the 13th Amendment, which abolished Slavery, where Democrats were unified in opposing,  and they opposed the 14th Amendment too, which gave blacks citizenship.

As for the 15th Amendment which gave Blacks the Right to Vote,  let's look at the voted count on that one;;

39 Republicans voting "Yea"

8 Democrats and 5 Republicans voting "Näy""

13 Republicans and 1 Democrat did not.

13, 14th and 15th, All 3 passing because of universal Republican Support..

If you want a vote count on the Civil Rights act of 1964, I can post that one for you too.

Honestly I still don't get why anyone would talk about democrats and republicans in 1870 as if it means anything in relation to the present day. Anyone who doesn't understand that democrats were conservative and republicans were liberal in the late 19th century really needs to brush up on their history.

Then if you want a better explanation for all that you posted, just go back a few years farther back and you have the Democratic-Republican party, one and the same, the single party that evolved into both parties and control the entire political ecosystem that we know today.

I like History, you can learn so much from it, and no matter how much you want to erase it or re-define it, it will never change.. The Present day Democrat has indeed changed, but the racism they display is alive and well.. Let's remember that in 1964,  Democrats fought like hell against the Civil Rights act, the majority of Democrats opposed it and Republicans supported it..  And then you have less subtle words and actions from Democrats, like when Bill Clinton in 1995 praised J. William Fulbright,  a segregationist who filibustered the Civil Rights act for 83 days.  Or in 2007 when Democrats unveiled a massive painting of former KKK Clansman Sen. Robert C. Byrd, the crown prince of the Democratic party, which hangs in the Capital Building today and Pelosi's absolute refusal to remove it,  along with Byrds bronze statue, and the mans name is plastered on the walls of Universities, Federal Buildings and highways,  All of which got there by actions of Democrats.

Democrats don't like bringing up the former Clansman's name these days, because Joe Biden had a close friendship with him, so close that Biden eulogized him at his funeral in 2010,  describing Byrd as  "fiercely devoted to his principles," a "friend," "mentor" and a "guide"  A guide?  Maybe that's why Joe Biden hasn't done squat for Blacks in the 40 years he's been in public office.

Fast forward to 2020, where Joe Biden calls for a ban on Federal Funding for Charter schools,  where struggling Black students have excelled in charter schools compared to Public schooling.. Nope, Biden and the Democratic party want to keep struggling Black students right where they are, locked into a failing public school system., So the next time you hear a Democrat talk about systematic racism, know that Joe Biden and the Democratic party are the purveyors of it.

"Fast forward" is the operative word.

America has a racially divisive past. Byrd quit the Klan in the 1940 's and repented according to his Christian values.

The question on the table today is less about white supremacy, though DJT has played that card to the hilt, but Structural Racism.

So many people approach politics with a sports team mentality. Yay, we won the 1880's. If we could go back to the late 1800's, most people would have a hard time recognizing anything familiar about any of the political parties. What we should recognize is they are all long dead and nothing they did has any bearing on what politicians do or don't do today today. People who keep attempting to argue a link between Lincoln's republicans to Trump's republicans have lost before they begin.

LOL.. And in 1964 he stood on the floor of the Senate for 14 hours Filibustering the Civil Rights act, who does that?  a Racist maybe?, Face it, the man died a Racist, it never left him, just like it never left Joe Biden, Once in a while it leaks out of Biden's mouth and the press ignores it, ""oh that's just Joe"" And the fact that the Democratic party idolizes Byrd to this very day is quite telling.

Look to the past 50 years and ask yourself what has the Democratic party done for Blacks? I wont hold my breath waiting for your short list..  All Democrats do is throw money at the problem rather than addressing the core of the problem,  why do you think that is? why is Government giving out Welfare when they know that it''s led to a decimation of Black families?,  And now we have politically correct policing in our major cities,  Great, as if the Murder among Blacks wasn't high enough.. To say that Democrats are the party of Racial equality, is like saying that Republicans are the party of Gay Marriage.

What is the " core of the problem" from your perspective?
