I completely agree with you. There're a lot of mothers, specially young ones with their first child, that their child becomes everything, it's the king/queen of the world, and the rest doesn't matter or exist anymore.

To be honest I am sick of those types of parents. Should not even call them parents. I came across someone like that the other day and thought I would stir her up as was like, "does your kid have down syndrome because he looks a little u know". She was like "NO she does not!" has not spoken to me since. What a dam shame I tell u..

LOL...Can I use that????

I wannt use it too LMAO

As someone with a relative with Down Syndrome I think it's very offensive to use that as an insult, specially because Down Syndrome doesn't equal retard, it's a genetic disorder where they're born with an extra chromosome, and I've known many Down Syndrome children way smarter than lots of people considered ''normal''

Calm down nessa, no one was making fun of Down Syndrome.

why is it NO ONE can say ANYTHING without SOMEONE taking offence and falling off the wall.

I didnt start this thread for anyone to fight, if a fight starts, i will ask for it to be closed, and i dont want to bc i didnt intend for this thread to be bad

It was not an insult towards kids with down syndrome.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Apologize, don't defend yourself. You used Down Syndrome as an insult, it was crass, and you've been called on it.

Why would I defend myself when I have a cousin with down syndrome and cousins who work with autism, down syndrome and disabled kids.

So you basically have no issue with an adult assaulting a 2 year old but have an issue with me stirring up a bad parent.

I totally agree and, had I actually seen those comments before my post, I would have said something as well. I've called people out on the boards before regarding disrespect towards people with disabilities and the like, and it isn't going to change for this thread either.

I used to work in Genetics and used to have to constantly work towards "enlightening" people regarding the attitude that many have in today's society against the learning disabled.

Regardless of whether or not there was any malice meant in the original post, the fact remains that by continuing to use DS as an insult (or even as part of a joke) towards a child with no disabilities, it does nothing but further the lack of understanding and misconceptions that people have regarding many of these syndromes.

Now, I request that we have all said our bit regarding this and I don't wish for it to turn into a fight. So...if you wish to discuss the OP's original topic that's great...but no more fighting about this now.

Thanks. :)
