We know why. But it's the elephant in the room that everyone is too disturbed to speak about. Thankfully the VP and the Army Sec took the appropriate action.

Supposedly the capitol police called repeatedly days before and during the protest for reinforcements and were told No. My big question is why weren't they given the proper protection as requested when they asked for it days before the event?

That's an interesting question too.

I am referring to why when the Capitol building was already under siege did it take a call from Steney Hoyer to the Maryland governor and why it was an hour and a half of repeated requests from the Governor before authorization from the department of defense take place,

And why, as Yuna said did the VP need to get involved.?

gerrymandering has got to go and it should be non partisan. i am in favor very strongly of term limits as well. and ending citizens united so that every campaign has equal footing. so that even minor candidates can be heard based on their relative merits rather than how much money they can hoover. people will decided for themselves whether they want batnut crazy or someone who they feel has their best interest in mind rather than donors.

contrary to what people think, we dont have 2 parties, we have about 6-7

socialists/anarchists/communists- the very far fringe left

progressives

liberals

centrists/moderates

conservatives

trumpists/tea party

fascists/nazis/conspiracy theorists- the very far fringe right

with some people ranging depending on the subject between several of those

I like your breakdown of the 7 groups.  Too bad the liberal and conservative politicians spend all of their time trying to appeal to their fringe groups instead of working with each other to actually get things done.

I never want a time where a governor has to think about potentially invading another state or territory because a POTUS or SoD feels like taking their brain out to lunch. But the sheer idea that the VP and SoA had to step in really is something.

Who has the power to mobilize the NG in DC?  I thought it was either the Mayor or the Congress that had control over that territory.

That's the thing here in NC before 2018 it was ONLY a two party state. Now we have the crazy Greens and Libertarians parties as well. The burden to pass in order to run as a Independent in this state is very hard to get pass. So hard that only candidates in a Commissioner race can pass that hurdle

Honestly I really don't believe that and will hold my skepticism until everything comes our in a clear timeline. There is so much BS floating around until it comes out

The President, the mayor had to request it.

The D.C. National Guard is the only National Guard unit, out of all of the 54 states and territories, which reports only to the President.

There were some NG already there but the mayor did not want them to have firearms. So they were forced to do traffic control for the event

I am not sure but after reading that piece from @CanAm1980 it is clear that it was a clusterf and bureaucratic nightmare at all levels. Everyone to ask everyone else for approval and permission to do something that clearly needed done.

The problem with the NG narrative is that most of them weren't activated already. So they had to go through the phone roster to call people, they come in, and then get sent out to the line. It is not a truly fast process to start with

So didn't that already happen prior to the events on Wednesday?  Does a second request have to come in once events started spiraling?
