I think you are building the case for stopping gerrymandering

Oh trust me I HATE GERRYMANDERING. I wish the districts would be drawn up by a nonpartisan commission making them as competitive as possible. That way it will help keep politicians accountable to us the people. I know we don't see eye to eye on alot but I think we both can agree that career politicians on either side are a big issue.

I agree with you @laylalex

I think there are plenty of people of every political persuasion who would be happy to let gerrymandering go. Just because someone who is speaking from the left is asking to end it doesn't mean that the person doesn't realize it's a "physician heal thyself" moment as well.

I went to Sunday school at a Unitarian Universalist church for several years, thank you very much!!

I think my dad went mostly because he liked the buffet after services, you get a better quality of spread in my opinion when it's a bunch of lefty industry types.

Buffet after services??? Now that is some killer services.... I thought getting milk and cookies after going to Mormon services in boot camps was killer but a buffet would have been great

All I remember well is the baked ziti and the cookies. Plates and plates of chocolate chip and ones with M&Ms and sugar cookies with colored sugar on top.

Now I'm hungry.

Not me. We went to the commissary on base yesterday to get some meat (because they are always super cheap) and I ended up getting a 16oz really nice steak for about $9. So when I got back from the gym the wife had the steak and potatoes ready for me to eat

Well, Alex is super jetlagged and I am planning on dinner at 8:30 to get him back on schedule here. He's out cold at the moment and I am sort of loath to wake him up. Nothing fancy, just some really nice orecchiette with pesto.

I pulled out the stops!

Top sirloin (Snake River) sous vide @ 127f and then seared on a cast iron skillet,  green beans nicely steamed, fingerling potatoes dressed with Bernaise sauce paired with a Charles Smith "Velvet Devil" Merlot.

..well,  the Merlot is within budget but still quite nice CS is a genius what he does with value grapes.

"To be fair" the green beans were identified as undercooked, but that is subjective.

How about not allowing this to happen again by actually listening to the people in charge and sending them assistance.

Outgoing Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund accused House and Senate security officials of hindering multiple efforts before and during the Capitol riots to call in the National Guard.

Sund told The Washington Post in an interview published Sunday night – his first since the events at the Capitol Wednesday – that he asked House and Senate security officials in the days before Congress was set to county the Electoral College votes to allow him to request the D.C. National Guard to be on standby in case troops were needed ahead of the pro-President Trump protests.

But the Capitol Police chief, who was officially replaced as chief on Friday after his resignation, told the newspaper that the officials denied the request

Yeah that would be a miss, did we figure out why the MD National Guard was waiting 90 minutes before Gov Hogan got authorization?

What do you have against

"Fixing the Electoral College"?

The prospect of dueling slates of electors doesn't sound good.

"Congress could detail narrow circumstances in which a state election would be deemed to have failed (in the event of a natural disaster on Election Day, for example). A new law could also clarify that state legislatures have the power to choose electors only in those circumstances or not at all (the Constitution leaves the door open to more meddling). And it could outline what happens if a state submits dueling slates of electors, along with the current rules for choosing a president in the House if all else fails."

I would think any changes to how states chooses electors such as a federal law would be challenged almost immediately on Constitutional grounds.  You are right the Constitution only says that the State Legislatures will decide how to appoint electors which is quite vague, but a change to how they do it would most likely require an amendment.

We know why. But it's the elephant in the room that everyone is too disturbed to speak about. Thankfully the VP and the Army Sec took the appropriate action.

I agree with you @laylalex

see? i knew we had common ground for which to build upon

gerrymandering has got to go and it should be non partisan. i am in favor very strongly of term limits as well. and ending citizens united so that every campaign has equal footing. so that even minor candidates can be heard based on their relative merits rather than how much money they can hoover. people will decided for themselves whether they want batnut crazy or someone who they feel has their best interest in mind rather than donors.

contrary to what people think, we dont have 2 parties, we have about 6-7

socialists/anarchists/communists- the very far fringe left

progressives

liberals

centrists/moderates

conservatives

trumpists/tea party

fascists/nazis/conspiracy theorists- the very far fringe right

with some people ranging depending on the subject between several of those
