I’m an applicant from Chicago. Came to the US on a visa back in 2010 so I’ve had social security card since then. Got married in 2019 and applied for a corrected ss card back in September here at Chicago’s loop office. They’re closed so had to send everything in mail (original documents). After months of waiting and dozen of phone calls they told me today that they sent my documents for verification on November 17 and still haven’t received clearance from SAVE (uscis entity). Question: did anyone ever deal with this? How long did it take? It seems like an excessive amount of time to just change my last name to my married one!!! Please comment!

also, our I-485 interview was scheduled yesterday. Don’t know the date yet. Our PD is 2/4/2020

If you already have a SSN, they shouldn't need to verify the SAVE system.

According to their instructions, only the Marriage Certificate is enough.

I was asked to provide a document that would prove my current immigration status. Since my green card is still pending I sent my EAD. It’s absolutely ridiculous that I have to wait this long just to change my last name! And what’s the point of sending them an original government issued document just so they can send it back to that government agency to verify. Madness.

I changed my name in the court last year, after applying for my AOS

I sent all the paperwork to change my name on the SSC and they rejected saying that I should have to change my name first with immigration, which was not correct. So I sent a second time and included their instructions saying that I didn't need to change with immigration first.

After less than 2 weeks I got the new card. So I'm assuming there was no SAVE verification, since my name in the USCIS system was not matching the new name. Or they verified with the old name and issued the card with the new one.

But anyway, it took only 2 weeks and it was during pandemic.
