Ok, different scenario.  Suppose Barack had called Michelle, the mother of his children, Mother, as a term of endearment.  What would have been the media reaction?  Be honest.

The sudden moralists seem to be very quiet about how Kamala got her political career started. Among other things.

Oh cool! Some whataboutism. 😎

Honestly? They would have called it weird. It's weird for Americans unless you're an older boomer or older. The Obamas are just barely boomers, practically Gen X. It's weird for Americans in America, no judgment about other cultures where it may be normal.

I asked my husband if I should call him daddy. He looked at me like I had another head growing out of my neck, and asked if I was familiar with Jung's concept of the Electra complex. I take that as a "no."

Nonsense.  They would have called it cute or old fashioned or anything to make it seem nice.

Okay, are we going to defend our hypothetical positions about a non-existent situation to the death? Because honestly, that's kind of hilarious.

I'm not sure what's gotten your hackles up but I'm telling you, from the position of a 35 year old woman who lives in the US, it's just not considered to be normal in our culture right now. That's not a value judgment. It just comes off as exceedingly old-fashioned and kind of simultaneously prim and oddly sexual at the same time.

The only time I remember a person doing that was when John Lennon used to call Yoko mother. Most people thought it was strange (odd) to hear, even back then, but nobody really cared.

Would they have commented on Barry's tan suit? Questioned whether a mother could have shoulders like that? Asked for his birth certificate?

Reject Fascism? Sorry but the only Fascism I am seeing is from the people trying to censor those they don't agree with. Which supposedly it hasn't just hit the Right but many people on Left this past weekend

I saw a "camp auschwitz" shirt and numerous confederate flags. It doesn't get more white supremacist than that.

Threat to Democracy? That is clear:

Seditious conspiracy (18 U.S.C. § 2384) is a crime under United States law. It is stated as follows:

If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority.

Many at the protest were white nationalists and neo nazi's. No matter how misguided it is to think Trump has some avenue to remain as president, I do believe the large majority of the demonstrators were not there for nefarious reasons and just wanted to show support for Trump and have their voices heard. However the failure of many conservatives to recognize and/or acknowledge that a significant minority of the group is composed of violent ultra right wing white nationalists has been a problem since day one.

No, many of us do see that and actively try to reach out to them to stop doing that #######.

"Numerous Confederate flags"? Do you even go down South at all? There are Rebel flags flying in many parts of the South, or people have paraphernalia with it on. Just because they fly it or wear doesn't make them a racist. Heck, you used to see (before Dylan Routh) see many black people wear that stuff as well.

I could care less what someone is wearing as long as they don't do anything stupid. But what I am seeing from these companies and many people is straight up fascism. I am on a local politics page right now that is advocating for a complete seizure of "assault weapons" because of last week. Someone even posted that the "2A isn't working anymore"
