An Air National Guard lieutenant colonel who serves as a Republican in Congress is calling for President Donald Trump to be removed from office after his supporters stormed into the U.S. Capitol, disrupting a vote to affirm Joe Biden as the next commander in chief.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois said top U.S. leaders must ensure that "we have a sane captain of the ship."

He is the sole Republican joining more than 60 Democratic lawmakers who are now calling for Trump's removal.

"All indications are that the president has become unmoored -- not just from his duty, or even his oath, but from reality itself," Kinzinger said in a video message released Thursday morning. "It is for this reason that I call for the vice president and members of the Cabinet to ensure the next few weeks are safe for the American people."

Among several others. I would not be surprised to see this go forward. I don't think the 25th will be invoked ultimately, although it probably should be, but the house will likely begin formal impeachment, and Trump is about to teeter into the deep end as it is. Should be an interesting two weeks.

I totally agree Trump has become unstable, but its only 13 days. I say just hide the football and drive on. The country needs to heal right now and I dont think all the talk of the 25th and an absurd impeachment again helps. (impeachment aint gonna happen in 13 days.

The country needs unity. I thought Biden's victory speech about being the President of all people etc, was good.

I dont think Schumer attacking Trump supporters as a whole and ranting about Trump, last night, is doing anything to help the problem in this Country. Everyone needs to dial back the bombastic rhetoric, get some key people on the inside to keep a close eye on Trump during the final few days and lets try to heal. and once again please dear god hide the football.

They very well may proceed with impeachment even if it doesn’t happen in 13 days.  The power elite in DC want to send a message and keep Trump from running again.

A federal prosecutor investigating the riots that engulfed the Capitol this week said he would not close the door to investigating and charging President Trump for his comments to the crowd of protesters shortly before they stormed the halls of Congress on Wednesday.

Michael Sherwin, the acting U.S. Attorney for D.C., repeatedly told reporters on Thursday that his office would be investigating and potentially charging "all actors" involved in Wednesday's riot.

"I don't want to sound like a broken record," Sherwin said when specifically pressed about Trump's speech at a rally for his supporters that day. "I'm going to stand by my earlier statement, we're looking at all actors here, and anyone that had a role and the evidence fits the elements of a crime, they're going to be charged."

Except that what he said was nothing sensational at all.

Biden pardon Trump? No way that happens. "Heal the nation" doesn't translate to "make Trump supporters feel better about themselves".

If Trump is found guilty of any crimes, he should get what's coming to him.

I am telling you how to deescalate things not escalate them further. Also the speech he said wasn't even bad.

Pardoning Trump doesn't accomplish deescalation. It may placate Trump supporters at the expense of doing the opposite to Democrats. I do think there are many places to look for and find common ground. Pardoning Trump isn't going to be one of them.

Removing him via the 25th or impeachment only fans the flames especially at this point with the little overall information we have.  If he is found guilty of something somewhere down the line fine, but of course that will only perpetuate the DC double standard.

Then maybe someone should tell him to get it together for the next couple of weeks so that it doesn’t need to be one of the options.
