Hi all! Trying to figure out how to get home as have had a death in the family - any help appreciated.

I have a Greencard through my husband (K-1 then AOS) which needs the conditions removing at in April. Just in the process of gathering evidence and filling out form i-175 now.

From what I understand entering the UK (am British passport holder) I will quarantine for 5 days then take a pre-booked test.

Coming back is what I am worried about - I won't leave until I have my NOA (just in case, even thought the GC is valid through Jan, feb, march) from what I understand I would be able to return as I am classed as permanent resident? Is that correct?

Would I also have to take a PCR test 2 days before returning? I will quarantine when I get back to NY

Thanks guys

My condolences on your loss.

If you have your expired conditional green card + NOA1 from your I-751, then per https://www.cbp.gov/document/guides/carrier-information-guide-english the airline is permitted to board you on a flight to the USA. I suggest printing that guide as the training of airline employees is uneven.

I further suggest to beware of transits. Many countries permitted a transit without visa if you an an unexpired green card. It's a mixed bag as to whether TWOV is permitted if you have an expired green card, even with the NOA1. This is likely not an issue if you are a UK citizen.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Also a UK citizen here.

I have seen some delays and problems in getting the NOA in time. This has been an on and off issue since April 2020. If your GC is still valid and you need to leave then you should just go. Make it back back before expired date. You might be lucky and get your NOA in the right amount of time but some people are still waiting since December. I applied for I-751 in April 2020 and it took 62 days to receive my extension letter. With the furlough and Covid it has been inconsistent and off track. Lots of glitches and unhelpful tier 2 officers. Just weigh out your options and see what works best for you. I do hope the extension does come in time! It’s been a bloody nightmare!

Thank you @Sarah_k92 and @Mike E for your advice. It's been a tough few days, and I'm just trying to keep a clear head to figure everything out. I will hopefully be sending my  I-751on Monday if everything arrives in time. I was hoping to get it before I travelled but I guess that isn't a possibility by the sounds of it.

My GC doesn't expire until April so I should certainly be back before then as am only intending on staying for a few weeks. I just wanted a little safety by way of the NOA incase a more intense lock down happens and I am stuck for longer than I expected!

In terms of the PCR test I might get one just incase - it says permeant residents don't need them but as someone with conditions not sure of that applies to me
