Hi everyone,

I am trying to help my relatives (a husband and wife) to understand whether they are eligible to become US citizens.

They received their green card in 2008. They renewed their green card in 2018, and it is set to expire in 2028.

They have been traveling quite a bit over the last 5 years.

In 2017 they have been present in the US for less than 185 days. In the last 5 years, the husband spent about 1100 days in the US, and the wife spent about 1200 days in the US. They never spent more than 6 months continuously outside of the US.

Would this be an issue?

Thank you!

By my calculation, they had to have physical presence in the US greater than 913 days [(365*4 + 366)/2] and it appears they meet that requirement.  They also do not have an absence greater than 6 months, so as long as they meet the 3 month requirement for residing in their USCIS district I would say they can file.
