If that's the case, why would the case status show that the results of the fingerprint review had been received? They should have caught this last April when they first received the results.

All that message means is that your fingerprints were taken and sent out the FBI... it doesn't mean that the FBI thought that they were any good.

No. It means the results were received by the NBC from the FBI. That's why it takes 10+ days for the results to be updated to your file after you have biometrics done.

rch99, did you get the approval and biometrics notice in the same envelope or did they come separately?

I suppose they could have mailed two notices and we just happened to get the biometrics one first. We'll hope for the best.

1 notice in 1 envelope. We had to call and schedule our appointment. I had to conference-call my wife in Thailand to do this. What a pain. The woman at the 800 number had me read the letter to her to make sure they were not supposed to shedule. I guess she didn't believe me.

My guess is that there was something wrong with the taking of the original fingerprints and the FBI couldn't use them, so you'll have to do them again...

I took another look at the notice. There are three options they could have checked for the FD-258 status: New, Expired, Rejected. The Expired box is checked. If the FBI couldn't use them I would have thought the Rejected box would have been checked.

Well I guess you can fight City Hall sometimes, but you can't fight the USCIS.

We have to wait two weeks for it. The notice scheduled it for 10 AM on the 16th. I'm hoping the folks at the ASC will know what the problem is, but since they're contractors, I'm not betting on it.

Why can't they have us come back to the District Office and do tbe biometrics there? They have a place for fingerprinting - my wife saw the sign when we were there. The Alexandria ASC is not anywhere near Metro and since my wife and I don't drive, we'll be shelling out some serious cash for a taxi.

I'm sure that they made a mistake in reading fingerprint expiration date. I feel very sorry for you both.

Please stay calm and you will be done very quick once you give fingerprint.

for to reach ASC in Alexandria, you can 'Fairfax Connector Bus 171 towards HUNTINGTON STATION ' from FRANCONIA-SPRINGFIELD METRO. this bus will take to the door of ASC.

Thanks k3matter for the bus directions. We still might take a taxi, as we're not familiar with the area down that way., but we'll check into the bus option.

The one bit of hope I'm hanging onto is that the notice says at the bottom, "If this appointment is not kept, your card will not be produced." I'm hoping that means, "If this appointment IS kept, your card WILL be produced."

We'll see what happens.

I did a walk in today at the Washington District Office. I told them I didn't have an appointment because we couldn't get an InfoPass appointment before the biometrics appointment. After being a bit grumpy with me because my wife wasn't with me (she's working), they looked up the case and told me that my wife's biometrics are fine and that the notice must have been sent in error. They said my wife does not need to keep the biometrics appointment.

They told me that we need to write a letter to the interviewing officer informing him of the error. I told them we've already done that, so they told me to wait 120 days for a written decision. Just to be safe I'm going to make an InfoPass appointment in two weeks to follow up.

Turns out the biometrics were needed after all, but all's well that ends well... We got approved in the end. Just goes to show you can't necessarily trust what they tell you at the desk in the lobby.

From our experience, you can't trust anything they tell you at the Washington DC office - whether at the lobby desk, at the IO counter or in the District Director's office!

Good job it all turned out okay for you in the end though.

Our journey started in 2001 and it's still not over. It's been a rollercoaster ride all the way! Let me off - I wanna be sick!
