My wife had her interview on Monday. The officer said he would recommend approval but the case is under review. Today we got a letter from the Washington District Office telling my wife to go to the ASC on February 16th to do biometrics. The thing is that she already did her biometrics last April. What the hell is going on?

The letter we got says the FD-258 status has expired. That's the FBI fingerprint card. It's supposed to be valid for 15 months. The thing is that the earliest InfoPass appointment we could make to complain about it is the same day as the biometrics appointment so we have no choice but to redo it again. What a bunch of #######!!!

We had the same thing. Original biometrics Feb 2005. Successful interview October 2005. Received a letter shortly after telling us to call and schedule "additional biometrics". No reason was given as to why.

What a bunch of #######!!!

Such is the immigration process. They probably attached your wife's biometrics to another file and some older results to your wife's file. Or they lost them altogether. Nothing surprises with these folks.

Biometrics are good for 15 months. They must be: Nani's biometrics were taken in July 2004 and her case was approved in September 2005 w/o doing the bio's again.

Good Luck on getting this finalized soon.

Biometrics don't expire for 15 months. This is typical of the Washington DC office - they are pretty hopeless at times! It doesn't cost anything to get them re-done, it is just the inconvenience I know, especially if you don't live that close. But usually, after the bios are re-done everything moves along pretty quickly.

Our journey started in 2001 and it's still not over. It's been a rollercoaster ride all the way! Let me off - I wanna be sick!

Actually it is going to cost my wife a day's salary, plus travel expenses...

Why couldn't they just have done this at the District Office on Monday?

To top it off, because she has to take that Thursday off, she can't take the following Monday off, which blows any plans we might have had at going somewhere for our anniversary.

This is really strange. I had my biometrics done in March 21, 2005 and I was not required to redo it. I guess it is just your luck that you had a rookie.

Good luck. Hope everything straigthens out quickly and your wife will get her greencard.

It's probably just an error -- but you're so close, I'd just do it although it sucks!

09-02-2005 Applications for AOS, EAD, and AP received by MSC

11-07-2005 AP approved

12-05-2005 Infopass appt at San Jose office for interim EAD -- Refused, because it is already approved by MSC on 11-07-2005

12-07-2005 Attempt at interim EAD at San Francisco office -- no go. Back to San Jose, where CSO (chief station officer) tells they will contact MSC via email to request permission to issue interim EAD

12-08-2005 Biometrics for AOS and EAD. Having no EAD appt letter was no problem (used EAD NOA)

12-15-2005 EAD arrived in the mail

12-24-2005 Received interview letter; interview scheduled 03-01-2006

01-28-2006 Received replacement SSN card in married name (5 wks since application)

I decided to write a letter to the officer who interviewed us:

Dear Officer X

My wife Grace and I met with you on Monday, January 30, 2006 at 8:15 AM for her interview for permanent residence. The case was continued for review.

Today, we received a notice from your office to appear for a biometrics appointment on February 16, 2006 at the Alexandria ASC at 10:00 AM. The notice indicates that Grace’s FD-258 status has expired.

I don’t understand how this could have happened since Grace’s biometrics were completed less than a year ago. Could this notice have been sent in error? Would you be so kind as to email or call me to clarify this? I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Good luck on getting a response -- I had to have my biometrics redone, at a centre in another state --I wrote a wonderful letter asking why, even included a copy of the biometrics worksheet with the date stamp -- nothing. I went to Wichita and was told that the letter "was probably upstairs on a supervisor's desk". As it turns out, the first set of fingerprints had been lost, and it wasn't a complete waste of a trip -- had a nice drive!

I hope you get a better response!

How long did it take after the additional biometrics to get the approval?

We got the card within 2 weeks. We received an approval e-mail the day after the biometrics.

I think they screwed up my wifes original biometrics. My wife said they had her do the fingerprints like 10 times.

I decided to write a letter to the officer who interviewed us:

Sincerely,

I wrote a letter too and nothing came of it (worth a shot though). The problem was that my wife went to Thailand with just the stamp and had to cut her trip short to do the biometrics within the 78 days.
