yeah,  i found it interesting when i was corrected on here because i quoted the wrong department so i looked this up

I stand corrected always if i make mistakes

but i have looked up the different senators and house reps and am preparing a letter

but think anyone will read and appoint a committee to study the issue???   nope!

That would take an Act of Congress and all they have time to do is belittle each other

Don't expect a big overhaul

legal and illegal immigration has needed changes for 20-30 years and the Democrats and Republicans have both been in control over those years

you will probably see some EO's but not the big overhaul that is needed

The following is a chart of what department does what in immigration

look up the congressmen in charge of each separate department and submit your concerns to him/her

we certainly can't change things

I completely agree, control of the Congress over the past 30 years has flipped a couple of times, and not much has been done related to laws reforming the system.  I don't see this happening here especially as to how thin the margins are in both Houses.  I think they rather like to keep this as a campaign issue which of course they would lose if they ever actually fixed anything.

Now that Democrats have control over the senate, how quickly can immigration reform occur? UScis needs an overhaul imo

Control over the Senate requires 60 senators, unless the Democrats decide to change Senate rules.

There won't be any immigration reform unless 10 Republican senators can be convinced.

At least the bills can be brought to the floor to be voted on. If the Republicans had control we wouldn't even be able to bring postive immigration policy to the table. I don't think big changes will happen, but there is a chance for some ease. I could be wrong

yep,  it has been used as a campaign issue since the original immigration law of 1882

which is an interesting read itself

Congress acts a little slow

There are 100 Senate seats. If the 2 seats in Georgia are confirmed Democrat, the seats will be split 50/50. If everyone votes on party lines, the tie breaker vote is cast by the vice-president so in this scenario the Senate will be controlled by the party of the vice-president, which will be Democrat. So, the Democrats will control the Senate assuming the Georgia seats both go Democrat. No change in Senate rules needed - not sure where you got 60 from?

What bill?

no one is even thinking of a bill to help legal or illegal immigration issues

they all (even the powerful Senators) seem to be afraid of tackling the issues

they even flip flop over DACA without making a real law or rule

If the bill passes by simple majority (218 of 435), the bill moves to the Senate. In the Senate, the bill is assigned to another committee and, if released, debated and voted on. Again, a simple majority (51 of 100) passes the bill.

But still I don't see any bill / don't think they are even thinking of one

The Senate still has the filibuster rule, so if they don't change that, in reality legislation still requires 60 to actually bring the bill to the floor for the up/down vote.  This is not the case anymore for confirmation votes of appointees/judges.

Unless the Congress appoints a committee to study the issues of both legal and illegal immigration,  they have no idea of the problems /they only know we now have over 9 million illegals here.

so, unless you see a committee formed and immigration lawyers and lay people in to speak about issues,  nothing is going to happen as "we the people"  are not being heard
