I got a case status update email today from USCIS that our I485 interview has been cancelled. I had applied for Marriage based AoS from my H1B visa. My USC spouse and I have a pretty strong case and were looking forward to our interview later this month. The email from USCIS is below. Does it mean that they have taken a decision on our case without doing an interview?

My case is the same. filled under marriage based. got the email on 01/15/2021 saying,  case status : Decision. Now, waiting for mail and let what is coming out from magician`s hat? rescheduled or decision

UPDATE: I got a letter today saying that my interview will be rescheduled. It came bundled with another letter that confirmed the cancellation of previously booked interview. The reason they gave was "unforeseen circumstances". So unluckily, my interview isn't being waived, even though Status: Decision was in the email sent to me a few days ago.

Hi. It’s been awhile. I noticed this question many times and going to plant the information here.
Every case is so different and we can speculate all day long.
I have no idea why we were waived an AOS interview and received the green card after the letter you outlined above.

My timeline is on my profile and we have a 16 month old little one with a 20 years age difference.
I can’t tell if it was sent to us in error or why.
On 11/3/20 After the green card was in hand and months later a de scheduled interview notice was sent to us and the last time I’ve been on VJ.
I’m waiting patiently to see if maybe they schedule the interview Post Green card but nothing yet. I believe that happened to @Sarge2155 after the waiver as well and they ended up  with an interview. Another stated if we changed our address than it can prompt the de schedule notice.

That is the last we have heard from USCIS and even called to make sure.
We HAD just bought a new home so either made sense.
I under the frustrations and the feeling of waiting on letters to arrive.
I still wait every day and save everything in case we do interview Whether after the fact or for ROC.
Either way the immigration journey is far from over but would do it all again if needed.
That while stressful, and at a time like this, that I’m thankful we have each other and hurt for those that are apart. I remember those days.
Anyhow, Fingers crossed for you and wish all of you to stay safe and well in 2021.

The case status updates are prewritten generic phrases the Officer chooses from. There are 7 (potential) case status updates:

Acceptance

Initial Review

Request for Evidence

Testing and Interview

Decision

Post- decision activity

Document production or Oath ceremony

"Testing" is for those doing citizenship so dont worry they arent going to give you a formal written test when you get there! Just normal interview questions.

Hello

I had the same experience. I was scheduled I-485 AOS interview the coming Monday March.21 but I saw online case status changed to interview was cancelled

And I called USCIS and live chat with two representative they both confirmed yes my interview was cancelled just ask me to keep tracking for update status

So did you still go to your initial interview that date or you just didn't go that date?

I just worried like some ppl said they got cancelled interview so they did not show up to the interview while later got denied
