I-485 Interview cancelled and status changed to "Decision". What does that mean?

I got a case status update email today from USCIS that our I485 interview has been cancelled. I had applied for Marriage based AoS from my H1B visa. My USC spouse and I have a pretty strong case and were looking forward to our interview later this month. The email from USCIS is below. Does it mean that they have taken a decision on our case without doing an interview?

There has been a recent processing action taken on your case.

Receipt Number: MSCxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Application Type: I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR ADJUST STATUS

Your Case Status: Decision

On January 4, 2021, we cancelled your interview for your Form I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR ADJUST STATUS, Receipt Number xxxxxxxxx, and mailed you a cancellation notice. We will notify you by mail if the appointment is rescheduled, a decision is made, or if we need something from you. Please follow any instructions in the notice. If you do not receive your notice by February 4, 2021, please go to www.uscis.gov/e-request to request a copy of the notice. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

During this step the formal decision (approved/denied) is written and the decision notice is mailed and/or emailed to the applicant/petitioner. You can use our current processing time to gauge when you can expect to receive a final decision.

Certainly sounds like it.  During COVID, some AOS interviews have been waived.  Although, the way it is worded, it sounds like it could also be rescheduled.

Any red flags at all in your case?

But, if the email said "Your case status: Decision", doesn't that imply that interview was waived?

As for red flags, none that I can think of except that it's been less than 2 years of marriage and that I am the only one financially supporting my wife.

Not sure.  I would think so.  Did you have a fairly recent interview for the visa you're adjusting from?

AOS interview waivers have been happening in 2020.  Maybe someone whose AOS interview was waived can chime in.....?    @Sarge2155 perhaps.

No I had that H1B visa given to me many years ago.

I know that employer sponsored GC applicants have had their interviews waived, but wasn't sure what has been happening to family based GC applicants.

Anecdotally, the interview requirement seems to have been waived only for those with recent, comprehensive interviews.....i.e. K-1s vs B visas.

I’m going with a decision has been made to approve greencard without interview.  Totally a gut feeling because I don’t follow timelines and progress reports.  Back in my day 50% of fiancé K1s were approved without interview because they had a recent visa interview. No pattern as to why some got picked over others. I was waived. Had only been married  3-4 days when AOS submitted. Never paid attention to marriage based AOS from work visas. President Trump cracked down on waivers so it all changed. Now some are being waived again. I think you may be lucky. Go with the positive vibe until you hear something.

What visa? You haven’t done your timeline. It helps others. See if this gets you going

These are not red flags.

I tried to fill it now - I have a pending marriage-based AOS case from within the US, I thought that was already on my profile. Can't seem to find a way to add a i130 but it was filed with the i485 so it gives an estimate anyways.

Hi there! My interview was waived, adjusting from F1 to a marriage based green card. I never got an update like that, but I guess that was because the day before the interview (we were literally heading to a hotel where we’d planned on staying the night before) a very nice lady from the FO called me to let me know. My status always remained in “interview was scheduled “ until two weeks after the cancellation we received a letter from the FO in the mail (no online update) asking us to send whatever evidence we were going to present at the interview. We did, and two weeks later we were approved.

UPDATE: I got a letter today saying that my interview will be rescheduled. It came bundled with another letter that confirmed the cancellation of previously booked interview. The reason they gave was "unforeseen circumstances". So unluckily, my interview isn't being waived, even though Status: Decision was in the email sent to me a few days ago.

If you're adjusting from a B-2 visa, your interview won't be waived.....
