Hi everyone,

Happy New Year!  So we got married in Morocco and will start the CR1 process officially.  I have a question about the acte de mariage.  Has anyone on this forum gotten married in Morocco as a divorced woman whose last name was still the same of their ex-husband?  If so what name did you put on the acte de marriage? I'm wondering if I should have changed my name back to my maiden name before doing the acte de mariage because now I am on the acte de mariage with the last name of my ex-husband.  I had planned to change my last name to my husband in Morocco even though women don't do that there. But if I change my name to his last name, the name on the acte de mariage will be wrong.  Does that make any sense??  Help if you can!

That one i can answer

my passport and all papers i had like income,  had my married last name (husband passed )

but my birth certificate had my maiden name and the clerk of the court put my maiden name on marriage papers and  i signed with married name

as long as you include all former names and nicknames  u may have legally used (when u fill out the CR1 application)   then no problem (la mochkila)

Morocco does not change the last name of a woman when she marries so your marriage certificate from  there will be ok no matter which name they use

BTW   you don't have to change it

i didn't

too many places to change and the bank said to change it on mortgage papers meant refinancing and i was not into paying new closing costs

and you don't change it in Morocco

Marriage certificates pretty much always use the current legal names, the names BEFORE the marriage takes place.  Shouldn't be a problem.  If you want to take a married name, do it.  No problem.
