Reminds me of Geography 101 in college. The professor asked what kind of potatoes come from South America.

Someone answered. "Baked Potatoes!"

Yes, the ORIGINAL came from South America--and it's also true that the original wheat came from the Indus Valley (as in during Harappan times).

I'm sure varieties (of potatoes) were developed by pollination experiments outside (such as in Ireland and Russia--which are the heaviest per-capita consumers, as well as possibly India the largest total producer/consumer), just as varieties of wheat have been developed OUTSIDE the subcontinent since 1500 BC (when the Harappan civilisation collapsed).

Impossible, as Thailand DOES NOT even HAVE the right terrain/climate combination for growing it.

Basmati was first created in the Uttarkhand-Himachal Pradesh area.
