Hello,

I went to USPS in MA on 11/21 to apply for a US passport (regular not expedited) for my wife and me. There were no updates from the passport agency for two weeks. Then I went to the USPS to follow up regarding our US Passport application on 12/02.
Before that, I had called the US Passport service to track the application. They said they did not receive our applications despite our submissions on 11/21. So I went to the USPS and asked about the status. The lady said that something weird has happened with our package. She said the package was sent to Springfield, and then it was sent to the Detroit facility plant Michigan. It was sent to Allen Park, Michigan(apparently put in a wrong container), although it was supposed to go to Philadelphia.

She was also reassured that the packet is not lost and that her supervisor will communicate with the Detroit facility guys. She also said that she would track the packages and see if it's moved to the correct route/container. After one week, she called us and said it reached Philadelphia, and after that, there were no updates.

Still, our passport has not reached the passport agency (worrying about naturalization certificate), and money has not been taken. I know the last ten days were holidays, and USPS is also overwhelmed with packages.

I hope some good news will happen this week.

Could you please advise if I need to do anything?

Thank you so much.

I believe this is because of USPS massive backlog.

Below is the update from passport agency after 40 days which is a great news.

The U.S. Department of State has received your application for your passport book on 01/05/2021. We're now reviewing your application and supporting documents.

You requested routine service when you applied, which we are currently processing in 10-12 weeks.

Good for you! Glad that anxiety can now be lifted!
