Hi everyone,

I checked the forums and I'm not sure if I see to many concerns about this topic yet. My husband has been here almost a year and has not received his green card because he has not been able to get an appointment to complete his biometrics. Also, I saw a YouTube video that said biometric appointment have not only been backlogged due to COVID but also the Trump administration.

Does anyone have more information about this? My husband's main concern involves traveling because he does not want to travel without his green card.

He came on a CR1 visa so he doesn't go for biometrics

the green card is printed when the fee is paid and is mailed to the address of record (the one you provided)

Did you pay the fee before or after he entered?

Have you moved?

Your profile says CR1/IR1, so your husband doesn't need a biometrics appointment in the US to be issued his plastic green card.  His spouse visa with CBP entry stamp serves as his temporary green card.  If he must travel and his return date is after the anniversary of his first US entry, then he can schedule an Infopass appointment to get an I-551 stamp on his passport.

You are misinformed or You have a misunderstanding of the process.  Biometrics are not required for a CR-1 after entry into the US.  If your husband needs to travel, then make an appointment to get a stamp in his passport........

Did you pay the $220 fee after his visa was issued? This is not included in the fees paid to USCIS or the NVC during the application process. It’s a separate fee and the GC will not be issued before that has been paid. Some people mistakenly think it’s already been paid to the NVC

I don’t know what the connection is between Trump and biometrics? He has been president for 4 years and biometrics were happening like clockwork for all of that time until COVID-19 entered the scene. That’s been the only reason for a lack of biometrics appointments as they have to be done face-to-face and USCIS locations were closed to in-person services for some time. But that doesn’t even apply to you.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

I remember you! Did you file an inquiry?? I assume that’s when they asked for biometrics. I would say keep making inquiries or contact your congressperson. I know of other VJ members here had the same issue with USCIS asking for biometrics, but I don’t know what happened in the end :/

CR-1 entrants are not required to do biometrics.

I know. But I have seen here on VJ other CR1 entrants asked for biometrics when they make an inquiry regarding their green card (after 120 days since entry). Mine was delivered a couple of months after my 120 days, so I was following those threads. It’s not common though. I remember @AlenaNick had this issue, but I don’t know if it was resolved.

When would a CR-1 entrant's fingerprints be entered into the system?

I can confirm, at the Port of Entry, the CBP officer took mine. My status was/is IR1.

Assuming  OP paid the relevant fee before or upon entry, she might have to contact USCIS. I personally had to  wait 6 months and only received my green card after contacting USCIS twice, second time to update my address. That seemed to set things in motion for me and i finally received it at my new address at around the 6th month mark. They are particularly slow this year.

USCIS didn't take your fingerprints at POE.  The OP stated that her husband hasn't received his green card "because he has not been able to get an appointment to complete his biometrics."   I have never heard of a CR-1 entrant having to make an appointment with USCIS for biometrics.

You are technically right but I assume the CBP shares its database with USCIS. I agree with you, i don’t think that’s the case with her husband’s GC. A biometric appointment with USCIS is not needed for CR1/IR1 visas as far as i know. Hence, my second paragraph, she should open a ticket with them to set things in motion.
