It’s been over a year since my biometric reuse notification. Time until case decision keeps being delayed by 4-5. When I filed in January 2021 it said online my case would be completed in May of same year, then it went to September, then November, then February and now July! I’m really anxious as even my temporary extension on green card is set to expire in August. I can’t even file a case inquiry as they keep extending the time line for it. Initially it was 9 months after filing that you could inquire. Now it’s 15 months?

should I be worried and hire a lawyer at this time? I didn’t file N400 with attorney as there is nothing even remotely questionable in my record. Is there anything else I can do to speed things along?

I would contact the Senator or Congressman and let them inquiry for you, USCIS is supposed to reply back to them in 30 days (even if you are within normal processing times).  At least you will know why your case is stuck.

I'm in the same boat. Applied December 1st 2020, date of estimated completion keeps pushing out and out. It went from 3 months to 8 months about 3 weeks ago.

My temporary extension on my green card is set to expire in June and my UK passport in October. I can’t even file a case inquiry as it’s 17.5 months right now to be outside normal processing time - that's 2.5 months from now.

In our Portland office - according to the VJ timelines - people who applied in June 2021 are interviewing right now. I am the only person on the list from 2020 who hasn't had an interview.

I wrote to my senator 3 weeks ago and didn't hear anything. Followed up with a phone call today and they have my email and will follow up when they can.

So so deeply frustrating.

R.

I followed this step. My senators team did inquire and got a response with typical reasons for delay because of COVID, many applications and that it was still within normal processing times (over duration of time they increased continuously processing times from initial 6 months to 15 months) but not in regards to my case. They had responded end of March to my Senators office. Miraculous 9 days later I got letter for interview for June 1st. Almost like they had to look at my file and finally decided to process since they were already in it.

Hello, I filed back in Jan of 2021. I have my interview on May 25 in Seattle. I have been studying for the 2008 civics test. Is that the correct one? I’m so confused.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I had my N400 interview on Jan 30,2023 at Federal Plaza. I definitely over prepared. My application was submitted in Jan 2021 and I didn't get an interview notice until exactly 2 years after the initial submission (and after contacting the USCIS ombudsman's office for help moving my case along). The agent was pleasant and quick. Questions on the civics portion included: name of the current president, ocean on the east coast, role of the judicial branch, how many justices are on the Supreme Court,) reading/ writing portion was about how many senators we have / we have 100 (one hundred) senators. I was informed my application had been approved on the spot and a notice of oath would be mailed. my status changed twice today (from interview was scheduled to recommendation of approval to oath will be scheduled). I am near graduation. I don't post here much, but have used this forum in moments of anxiety and frustration. I thought it'd be fair to make a small contribution by sharing my experience as I know these stories help comfort and remind us that one day, eventually, our time comes - even if it takes a while.

Today, Jan 31, my case updated to notice mailed. March 6, 2023 is my oath ceremony. I was probably the last filer from Jan 21 to be approved 😂

it’s all good. Good luck to all.

Hi all,

I finally had the I-751 and I-400 combo interview.

Questions were the usual, and my husband was with me for both parts Removal of Conditions and Civics questions. Examples were:

  • To my husband: Where was she born? How did you meet?
  • To me: What's his DoB? How did you meet? How did he propose?

Two things that stood out for me were:

  • We were asked to show recent pictures from our phones, on the spot.
  • We were asked if we had any children, and when we replied we didn't they followed up with: And why not?
I suppose if you're in your 20s and have been married 5+ it's sus (?)

It took me a few secs to react to answer to that one question, but anyway be prepared for something like that.

Cheers!

This is the second time recently I have seen the question about kids asked at the combo I-751/N-400 interview on VJ. Honestly, I don't think it means they see not having kids as "sus" but more to gauge your answer(s) and reactions to that question. Pretty much every legitimate married couple will have at least discussed having kids and why/when/why not.

Was the lawyer present in your interview?

I find the second set of questions, especially showing the contents of the phone borderline of what is legal (unless somebody has references to relevant laws?) I wonder if the second set of questions would have been asked at all with a lawyer present. Kind of reminds me of another topic where IO was asking about LPR's cancer diagnosis (out of good faith according to LPR).
