What happens next after arriving in the USA?

Hello everyone,

 

so I’ve finally arrived in the USA and feel stupid because we don’t know what’s next. I know I need to get my green card and social security number but I don’t know how.
 

I wasn’t given a sealed visa packet with instructions or anything stating whether I need to pay a USCIS Immigrant Fee. All that happened was they inserted the visa page into my passport after the interview.

Border control took my US address and phone number and said that my green card will be shipped, but how can this happen without paying the USCIS Immigrant Fee? 

 

has anyone experienced anything similar? If so, please could you share what happened. Really wish things were a little more straightforward.

If  you marked on the ds 260 for USCIS to do apply for your SS # the card will come in the mail

If not ,  you need to apply at Social Security office when they are open

If you need to drive (as many of us do when we don't have bus or taxi serivice) look up the DMV site for your state on how to apply for Learner's permit and driving license

If you are a male under age 26 ,  you need to fill out the selective service form at the nearest post office 

when you have ss card,  have your spouse add you to bank account

do a resume and look for work if you are thinking for a job

Wear a mask and don't get covid

So, thanks to your list, I can confirm that I marked on the DS 260 to apply for the SS number.

 

I don't suppose you know what to do if one does not have a visa packet.  I don't know where to get an A-number, a DOD Case ID, instructions for paying the USCIS Immigrant fee, or an Immigrant Data Summary from?

I paid the visa fee before he left Morocco so very sorry i can't help you there

and they did change the way its paid online but i think its thru CEAC site and you use case #

others will chime in with this info
