i-864 how to prove the Canadian income will continue after moving to the U.S.

The petitioner and I both live in southern Ontario, two hours drive from Buffalo. We are trying to avoid petitioner moving before the interview. Can we just write a letter at NVC stage explaining the petitioner will commute to their job in Canada after visa approval OR do we definitely have to get a letter from the employer confirming they are OK with this arrangement?

If we could avoid it, we would not like to ask the employer and spook them yet. Has anyone else done this, what was the outcome?

Is commuting across the border allowed now?  Will it be allowed then?

Maybe, maybe not. I guess the question is since you live close to the border (say you have signed a lease in Buffalo) - can you just tell CO/NVC that you'll keep the same job and commute to it OR do you have to "prove it" with a letter from employer that they know you will be living in Buffalo and working remotely/commuting and will be OK with it.

I understand your question.  Trying to determine if it's already moot based on travel restrictions, because there's no clear answer to the actual question.  It's a judgment call.  "A signed lease in Buffalo"...WOULD be evidence in and of itself.  But again, if no commuting is allowed at that time, it's still a moot question.

As long as the petitioner has status in both countries- which it sounds like he/she does- there is no issue at all with them crossing the border as many times as they want. The only issue will be the quarantine rules on the Canadian side. But, it seems like Canada is on the way to moving towards mandatory testing, probably leading to the elimination of the quarantine requirement at some point in the not-too-distant future, although of course when that happens is anyone's guess.

I think solid evidence that you will be carrying on working, presumably your Employer is aware.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
