Flu Vaccine for Medical Tips

Spouse has been looking all over for the flu vaccine to try and get it before his medical. His GP couldn't give it because of covid iirc, and the pharmacies he's gone to have either put him on a waiting list or just outright told him that they don't have it. He's been trying to get the jab for months now, since the start of the season, with no luck.

I expect that we still have some time until we get our interview date and his medical, but I'm wondering if anyone else has any tips or experience with not being able to be vaccinated. What do we do if he's unable to find someplace to jab him before we get the medical? Even though he's not in a vulnerable group for the flu, when he asks for it it's always with the preface that he needs it for immigration purposes. Worst case scenario, is getting documentation that there isn't a vaccine available enough?

Thank you for reading 👐

Is he in the US?   Really doesn’t make sense to me, as there is no flu vaccine shortage currently.

Ireland ☘️

I did some research and it seems like there's a shortage in that there's more demand this year, at least in Ireland. Does that affect things?

Well, if his interview is not even scheduled yet, chances are it will take place after flu season ends, so it won’t even be an issue.

It'd be nice in one sense if that were the case, but on the chance it's not? I'm trying to be proactive here. The embassy in Dublin seems to have issued interviews through the end of January according to this site and you need a vaccine through the end of March. While timeline estimations and statistics are probably unreliable due to covid, for our situation our interview is estimated to be at the beginning of March.

Even if it ultimately isn't relevant to us, it can be relevant to other people.

To generalize: What happens if you can't find a flu vaccine, despite best efforts, and you need it before the medical?

I assume he will get it at his Medical

If it is unavailable the panel physician will know this.

YMMV

Any missing vaccines can be obtained at the medical. It will cost more than a regular pharmacy or GP but it will meet the requirements.

Sorry about posting in the wrong place, thank you for moving.

When spouse called the hospital that does the medical, the person who answered said that the doctor no longer administers required vaccines. I also read elsewhere that for Ireland you're required to get them outside of the medial exam and just report back with documentation.

I guess since we are doing all that we can on our end, we will at least be able to say that we tried, assuming things don't work out. And like payxibka said, if there's a shortage (which news articles seem to indicate) then it'll be known to the doctor.

Thank you all for your replies!

I would assume that in most cities with a US consulate/embassy where they do lots of visa interviews, there is a vaccination clinic close to the approved physician's office where they routinely do any missing vaccinations.  This was the case in Rio for my husband's medical, the physician did the exam, checked his vaccination record, and then sent him to a nearby vaccination clinic for the ones he needed, then he took the record of getting them back to the physician's office to be included in his file that went to the consulate with the medical exam results prior to his interview.  Search the Ireland forum for more direct experiences.  Good luck!

Have them put him on the waiting list. Eventually his turn will pop up. Here in the US You just have to go to a Walgreens or CVS and its done in 15 Minutes

I would imagine that the physician would know this once his medical screening is scheduled prior to his interview is to be conducted.
