I would talk to a lawyer and potentially look into a 'writ of mandamus' if it's taking over a year in AP. Dont listen to some people here, they are just negative and assume it's okay to be in AP for years. It's wrong and doesn't make sense. Talk to a lawyer and discuss it. It looks like the government just wants to punish and mistreat some people from pakistan.

I agree with you. The AP for other European countries wont take that long.18 months in AP for what? This is unacceptable.

Background checks can take a long time.  Pakistan is not a European country.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Do you honestly believe that?  The fact is that the in-country security checks cannot be trusted in Pakistan.  It has nothing to do with the US wanting to mistreat Pakistanis.....

Security checks can't trusted in a lot of countries. Eg. India, Philippines, North Korea, some south american countries...the list goes on. Fraud occurs in almost every country. Yet we mainly see AP for Pakistan lasting years and its pretty common. I worked for a security firm and know first hand it does not take a year. It's a joke.

The evidence shows that some checks require a long time in Pakistan.  It is unfortunate....but it is reality.

What evidence? There is no evidence that separates Pakistan as a higher fraud country vs say China or Philippines or Mexico etc... Pakistan is singled out. It's unfair and unjust to make them wait years to get even an update.

I agree with you on that it's reality but it needs to change. I for one would pay the fee for WoM if my case was in AP for over a year. Especially if I know that my spouse and I have a clean background

You don't see any AP from North Korea.

It is unfortunate to see Pakistanis going under such a prolong AP but like the other people have mentioned it is good to expire all your options but when it comes to OP there is not much you can do yes writ can cause some repels and pressure but in the end they can say we didn't receive enough evidence of clean background and hence we deny it and in that case you are pretty much back to square one.

There is a recent case where someone was advised to file a writ.  It resulted in a denial.  I have heard of some ending successfully.

If I were you, and if it’s over 2 years in Ap, and no update...I’d try for writ of mandamus...
