You got a letter online?? We only got a physical letter saying something like the USCIS has received your application and the next step is to wait for the biometrics appointment.

Do your online letter mentioned how to get the sticker for your passport? Any contact number to call??

I was under the impression that the sticker is something new compared to what had previously mentioned. Sorry if I got confused. I will try to give the contact center a call. Regardless, I was wondering why we don't get that letter telling us about the extension sticker in the first place. I would have thought they will send out a generic response letter to everyone filing for the same visa.

"Beginning in January 2021, if you are applying to renew your Green Card, your Form I-90 receipt notice (also known as Form I-797) will say the following and can be used with your expired Green Card as evidence of your lawful permanent resident status:

This notice provides evidence of your lawful permanent resident status for 12 months from the expiration date on your Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card (also known as a Green Card). You remain authorized to work and travel. This notice, presented with your expired Permanent Resident Card, is evidence of your status and work authorization.

If you do not have your Green Card or your card expired more than 12 months ago, you will need evidence of your lawful permanent resident status while waiting to receive a new Green Card, and we may issue you an Alien Documentation, Identification & Telecommunications (ADIT) stamp after you file this form. Additionally, if you applied for naturalization at least six months before your Green Card expired, you may be able to receive an ADIT stamp instead of filing a Form I-90. If you need assistance, contact the USCIS Contact Center.

If USCIS already accepted your application to renew your Green Card and you have not been issued a biometrics appointment notice, USCIS will mail you a new receipt notice to use with your expired Green Card as temporary evidence of your lawful permanent resident status. If USCIS has issued you a biometrics appointment notice, you will not receive an amended receipt notice but you will receive an extension sticker at your biometrics appointment."

Is this how your notice of receipt letter worded? We did not receive one that is remotely resemble this. It simply told us that USCIS has received our application and a separate notice regarding biometrics appointment will be sent to us separately later, that's all.  The one you have is much clearer.

So based on your letter above, once we get our notice for biometrics appointment, we can then use that notice (together with the old green card) as temporary evidence of lawful permanent residency status. And we won't bother with calling the local USCIS for all-person appointment to get the extension sticker.

Regarding the biometrics appointment, anyone has any idea of how long it may take for us to get that notice?

It's on the USCIS website, but I don't think you understood what it says there.

If you get a biometrics appointment, they will give you a sticker during the biometrics appointment.

If they reuse old biometrics, then they will mail a second letter talking about the extension.

Under what condition will they re-use the old biometrics? I thought everyone applying for extension/renewal will need to have their biometrics taken again.

Again, usually how soon will they arrange you for the biometrics appointment, assuming you need a new one?

Not sure. They have been reusing biometrics a lot because of covid.

Biometrics are now with a delay of around 3-5 months, depending on where you live. I applied for a renewal EAD end of July, got the biometrics appointment for end of December. I even got my GC before that.

So it wasn't too bad, especially considering you are applying for yours in NYS.

So are you saying you got the new GC before you need to go in for the biometrics? i.e. they re-use your old biometrics?

No. I was talking about AOS.

I filed to renew my employment authorization in July, and they didn't reuse my biometrics. Got my GC Interview in Nov. In December I received a letter for the EAD renewal biometrics.

Oh, we are actually talking about the renewal of an existing 10-year GC. That's why I got confused.

I know, I just mentioned my case to show the backlog covid created for biometrics. Right now it's a 3-5 months wait.
