I understand very well that you have 90 days after arrival on a K-1 to get married or leave the country.

Must you file the I-485 etc. within that same 90 day window?

There appears to be quite a mountain of paperwork to gather (what with the I-485, 944, 864, 212,  etc.), and this is not an easy time of year to get things done. It would be nicd

As soon as my K-1 was approved, I worked on the the forms for AOS, then when this was approved, I worked on the next step. Always one step ahead.

and eventually leaves the US, if the couple are still married, then a spousal visa would be necessary and the “out of status” may not cause a big issue unless unless it is excessive (greater than 6 months) where more paperwork such as a waiver may be necessary.

*plus more wait time since Form I-601 can only be filed after the Consular Officer officially determines the inadmissibility at the visa interview.

Granted, this was pre-I-944, but I had Anastasia's AOS forms almost complete before she got here (though I ended up having to recopy one due to a new form version coming out).

We certainly intend to have her ROC forms ready to go so we can mail them a few days after we're allowed to file them.
