Hey everyone. I wanted to ask if anyone had an issue getting a driver's license with the extension letter. The CA DMV told me I only get a temp license until I have my new gc. Which we all know will take ridiculously long. They told me I have to go back every 2 months to get a new temp. Anyone else in the same boat? That can't be right. 😔

Hi there, are you renewing or it's your first time applying? If so I would suggest that you renew it online by creating an account. I renew mines online two weeks ago and I received it yesterday and it expires in five years (2026)

I had a NC but needed a CA license. First time for a CA license so couldn't do a renewal. It's just seems weird to me that I can't get a real driver's license.

Oh hi , my gc it was expired July 2020 I just visit fontona dmv office first window try to make my new driver licance but he can’t I just wait again someone help me it was window 3 or 4  then I just  explain my situation ( I didn’t have extension letter yet) I just told her I’m pilot student I can’t enter some airport then she ask me 2-3 questions after that she did something ,  I got 5 year driver license with real ID. It’s will expire 2025.

Mhh maybe I'll have to go back and talk to them. I feel like they shouldn't make it an option on their website if it doesn't work. 🙄

Hey all,

Greencard expired 1/16/21

Sent application 12/21/20

It was received by F.Brown on 12/23/20

I got the NOA notice on 1/26/21

I got the text on 1/30/21 ( yes after the NOA lol)

My receipt number starts with SRC, got 18 months extension, applied from Texas. Do SRC take longer to process?

Go in person and ask to speak to a supervisor if you haven't tried that already.

I already had a CA license and only needed to renew it. Did it via mail, "forgot" to send a copy of the extension letter. 3 weeks later I still hadn't heard anything from them so I called and was informed that my application was sitting at their "legal presence unit" and got the number.

Called the unit and explained that I was in the middle of a removal of conditions process. The guy was awesome - knew exactly what I was talking about and said he'd approve the renewal right there and then. A week later I received a 3 year license instead of the 18 months that my extension letter would've given me. Great experience.

I know your situation is not the same but it at least shows that it all comes down to who you get to talk to. Don't give up, try several different offices if needed. Someone will give you a proper DL.
