It's easy to know what they are thinking. You see they firmly believe that this is all a government handout, and we all really don't need the money... any sort of money at all. We neither deserve it or require it. They live in a different world of millions and mansions, and have no understanding of what the common man's life is like. And despite all that, people keep voting for them. Giving us back our money doesn't teach us to work hard enough, you see. We're all lazy and ungrateful, and this is all somehow our fault anyway, afterall we elected them. Of course it won't take long for the pivot to happen, when they find the words fiscal and responsible all over again on some talking points and repeat this for four years.

There is little in this bill that will help the economy to recover honestly. $600 or $2000 will not help, any more than $1200 did before. Help needs to be innovative, fundamental, and changing.

And of course he would say that he wants to give everyone $2000 or... well nothing at this point. Throw enough money at a problem and perhaps someone will like him. But it's more than that, he's never been fiscally conservative in the first place, so of course spending big money we don't have would feel attractive to him. It's how he lives and he has little understanding of how we live. The money will be used and gone and we will be back in this boat all over again, on repeat for months.. or years.

Totally agreed in that Trump isn't and hasn't been a fiscal conservative, and that whether it was 600 or 2000 is both ridiculous when looking at the scope of overall damage done to the jobs and livelihood of Americans by these shutdowns. I think that's part of what makes this legislation so devastating. I also agree that it's funny Republicans (particularly in the media and Congress) are starting to chirp about fiscal responsibility after the last 4 years of ridiculous spending, and not just in the past year.

The other stuff.. ugh. It's like watching neighbors somehow on different planets. Millionaires in mansions? Don't want to return people's tax money? 🤨

You are correct, Trump has never been a fiscal conservative, I think that was obvious even back in 2016.  The GOP in general are just slightly more fiscally conservative than the Dems, and that is only just a few specific members.  I think the real issue is the optics of the relief Bill coming out at the same time as the continuing resolution that contains all the outrageous spending.  I agree with many of the other responses here that if we are going to spend the taxpayers money, it is better off back in the taxpayers hands rather than in the pockets of many of the foreign leaders that will be controlling it.  Overall, I am not a big fan of the spending in general, but as @Steeleballz mentioned, a lot of the economic woes of the past year were government manufactured.

Funding for arts and music stuff are some of the programs I've seen people opine as being wasteful. I actually do not mind spending in these areas, as funding for them is especially important now.
