I just read that in Canada, you can obtain a nation-wide police certificate instead of having to obtaining one from each town you have lived since 16. Is there an equivalent thing in China? It is such a vast nation and it would be costly if not difficult to go from province to province to get the certificates. Does anyone know? Thanks. (sorry... still waiting for approval from candlesforlove.com admins before I can post anything, so I have to do it here...)

YES, only one cert is needed from place of residence in China, it is a national one.

The "Each place lived in since 16" means "Countries" with regard to China.

Note you are abit ahead of your self, there is plenty of time to get it, have SO wait until she has packet 3 before acquiring, Marriageability, and Police Cert.

thanks, YuAndDan, for always being there and giving me answers and advice. The reason I am asking about this certificate is that my fiance is about to get a cert of no marriage, so she thought it would be easier if she could get all the certificates at once.

so from what you are saying, she doesn't even need a cert of no marriage for I-129F submission? If so, I will tell her to hold until packet 3.

Correct, that is needed for visa interview in GUZ, all she needs to provide you to file I-129F is completed and signed 4 page G-325A, and a signed and dated fiancee letter of intent. We used the form letter from VJ.

although it was a bit surprising to find out she has to travel all way to Guangzhou for the visa, at least the I-129F submission seems to be more straight-forward than we initially thought. I will let her know and have her sending me those forms immediately.

A few more words of advice about GUZ.

There is an apartment land-lord who rents apartments in the same building as the consulate in Guangzhou, room prices are around $25 per night, not bad, and he tends to give good advice about the interview process. more can be found on Candle

GUZ tends to look at number of China trips, the more the better, if you can only make 1 more trip before interview, it is best to travel there for the interview, it gives your SO support, and looks good if she presents your actual passport at the interview.

If you do travel to Guangzhou for the interview, plan on being there before the Friday before the interview, GUZ has an American Citizens hour 2pm Friday afternoons, you can talk and ask questions of the immigrations officer, and they tend to note your visit in the computer, and that also pops up when your SO is being interviewed.
