In California, wealthy patients are offering top dollar to cut the line for a Covid-19 vaccine

(CNN)While the nation continues to see record levels of new Covid-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths, wealthy patients in Southern California -- the epicenter of the state's Covid-19 crisis -- are offering to pay top dollar to cut the line and be among the first to receive a vaccine.

At a number of concierge medical practices in Southern California, doctors say they've received calls from their well-off clients asking if they can have early access to the extremely limited supply of vaccine doses in exchange for a financial contribution to a hospital or charity.

Hardly surprising and I for one would be fascinated to see some names, no doubt the usual suspects.

My own guess is that a lot of them are names that will mean little outside of the LA area -- CEOs, superagents, property moguls... 

 

Disgusting. These people should be making the donations anyway, not making them contingent on skipping the line.

Oh, sure. I have my own guesses. 

 

Honestly I was shocked yesterday when I heard that podcasters are classified as essential workers. Like, what? What essential service do the people who do the podcast I listen to about true crime and cults really perform?

70% of the working population are essential workers. Including me!

 

On a more positive note the CDC are recommending that minorities should be vaccinated first so I should be pretty high on the list.

I identify as a minority front line healthcare worker, I get first dibs at declining until later.
