Error on marriage certificate

My wife had our marriage certificate scanned and emailed it to me so I could start on the translation.

Well, I immediately noticed that the date was wrong. We got married on June 11th. This was a holiday in Colombia so the notary office was closed but the he came out and married us anyway. He told us that we couldn't get the marriage certificate that day because the guy that makes them was out that day. Well, they put June 12th as the wedding day and the processing day.

At first I thought "no big deal" and changed the wedding date on our forms. However, last night I realized that we were no longer in San Andres on the 12th.. We left the same day we got married. We had to move the wedding to the last day of our trip because my wife was still looking for a dress.

In any case, I am concerned that if I put down the 12th as our wedding date and some observant USCIS or consular official looks at our plane tickets and hotel receipts for that trip, they may think we are providing fraudulent documentation.

Any ideas on what to do. I'm sure we could get another copy of the marriage certificate, but that will add some time and expense to the whole mess. I think it might be worth it to avoid hassles.

If it were me, I would definitely get the correct marriage date on the marriage certificate, even if it does add some time to the process.

I have found in immigration matters, that whenever you choose not to rectify an error as soon as you possibly can, it comes back to haunt you in the future.

You will be forever trying to explain why the date on the certificate and all the paperwork is wrong.

Do all the rest of the paperwork that you can while you wait for the corrected marriage certificate.

I just talked to the notary. He said that he can't change the dates because the official date of "inscription" was the 12th. I mentioned to him that the certificate also has a "celebration date" in addition to the "inscription date". The celebration date should be the 11th and the inscription on the 12th.

He basically won't do anything about it. I even asked if he would write me a letter explaining the situation.

I guess we will have to put the 12th on our forms and hope for the best.

Don't stress too much about it, the only way they can know is if somebody looks at your passport stamp. You can always claim you got married and left the country same day. Good luck

My wife is going to call this numbnut and see if she can reason with him. She is about to start her last semester of law school in Colombia so she knows the legal processes and he can't just blow her off.
