The bottom line is that not everyone can afford to immigrate or to bring someone over.

💓I think this is not said enough....but it is absolutely true.

Wow I didn’t know that there’s such negativity in the community. Why do u all think we didn’t look at the requirements? Why do u think that we aren’t aware of all these expenses. That was rude. U talk like a marriage is just something only about money and I leave u with that mindset. But plz don’t tell me this. We are aware of everything u said below. The only useful advice is about joint sponsorship and thank you

Your age and immaturity as pointed out just showed in this your comment.

Hello! Me and my fiancé (both 20) are going through the k-1 visa process. And we find that the most problematic part that no one firstly talks about is the amount of money petitioner must get. He started working few months ago as a waiter so his main income are tips.  But an affidavit of support requires information about year’s salary. We are hoping for the best. But it seems like there’s no way for us to be together in less than two years or so. Do you have any thoughts on that?

Thank you

There is the warm fuzzy feeling of love (we've all been there) and there is the cold hard truth of US immigration. You seem to have researched the process somewhat, but you came here to ask for other people's thoughts. Well, you got them. Many posters here have experienced much of what lies ahead for you and your fiancé, in terms of expense, stress, and delays. There is no sugarcoating those facts.

Were you hoping to find a loophole or workaround for the concerns about money? A joint sponsor is certainly a partial answer. But if you look at the long-term, are you both financially prepared for this long, expensive journey?

Well, I only posted once (now twice) in this thread, so I'm not sure what you mean by that.

But if you think you are ready, you are by all means free to do as you like ;)

Some points warrant repeating.......it seems to be the same messages coming from a whole range of other members. Some are young, some are middle age, and some are older (like myself).   I had a junior high school teacher once tell our class "A word, to the wise, is sufficient".   It was true more than 50 years ago.....and it is true today.  Good luck on your journey.  We are always happy to share what we have learned along our journeys.

You did in your initial question which showed some sensible thinking and concern

but now you must learn that money (fees and income) is put first by immigration and we all know it

i spent $35000 just to get his visa and many spend as much maybe more

We support your love / we just know the hard facts with this process

not against young love at all / i married at 20 while still in college and had twins in my junior year / we made it thru the tough times but it wasn't easy

you can too but listen to all that is said here so you "know what the tough times will be"

How did u spend $35k on his visa?

How did u spend $35k on his visa?

fees for K1 and denied

fee for CR1 and fees to appeal another denial

won appeal and had to reapply according to court so new fee

and had to make 5 trips to stay withing the 2 year requirement plus the 1st to meet and then to marry

and all this requires $10 a page of all our documents to marry (6 copies of mine and his with 14 different documents)

the travel in Morocco itself to the US embassy ,  rabat for paperwork,  and back to his city to marry

then the RFE i had to get affadivat from my mom to say i told her i would marry

pay for dad's death certificate to show why he didn't attend wedding

trip for Adil to Rabat to Italy embassy for his dad's death certificate to show why he didn't attend the marriage

trip for Adil to Safi to get document from school to show he studied English

and so much more

you do not mention his country but if he is from a high fraud country ,  its hard to get a K1 visa

if you want serious answers and the best advice ,   we've been through it all (here as every member goes through a different experience ) and it "ain't easy"

again ,  not against young love but you asked about the support and he'll need a better job or Joint sponsor

and you'll need a lot of patience and people to support you emotionally during this as "again it ain't easy" and you'll be surprised at the number of people you personally know who will tell you it's foolish to do this.  At least here we don't think marrying a foreigner that you love is foolish as love is love and can't be denied.   Go with your heart but let your head work for you

If you have a family member that is ok with your relationship you can get them to sign papers saying they will support him for 10 years.

Could be shorter (i.e. a little over 5 years) or way longer if the immigrant doesn't become a US citizen or isn't credited with 40 SSA quarters.
