After having our case sit at the NVC Since May, my Fiancé and I finally got an update yesterday.  We got an email stating that the NVC is now forwarding our petition to the Embassy in Sydney, Australia and that my Fiancé will be contacted by them when they are ready to process our petition.

Should we do our DS-160 Form now, or should we wait until we hear back from the Embassy to do this form?  I had called the NVC ~4 months ago and got our invoice number at that time but was told to not do anything until the Embassy contacted us.  Would just like to know if we should do this form now or wait!

Thank you!  :)

as long as your case shows ready and the embassy is open for routine service and interviewing your visa category, go ahead with filling the ds 160 and schedule your appointment. No need waiting for embassy.

My fiance and I got a bit confused about the process and completed our DS-160 in October. Our case is still at the NVC. It's not a problem that we already filed out the DS-160 is it?

No, if the ds-160 have already been submitted ,just make sure that when you pay for the visa fees and book appointment the ds160 Id(a series of alphanumeric characters) matches with the one on the appointments letter.

The DS - 160 is a document that stands alone. It does not affect anything. You can't use it to find any information about your case. You can't use it for anything other than for its original intent and that is for the CO to use during your interview to adjudicate your case. It does not need to be finished at the moment you receive your case number or to do anything else but needs to be completed for the interview and it can be completed between case number issuance to the day before your interview.

Once you complete the form it can no longer be accessed by you for corrections. You literally have to create a new DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application. Keep copies of each page in the event you need to return to create a new DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application. If find that you need to create a new one, then destroy the confirmation page to the original. The CO can only access those that they have the confirmation number from as presented at the interview by the beneficiary.

If you change address or have a minor mistake then don't create a new DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application but bring it to the attention of the CO at the interview and they can change it there when it is up on their screen.

BTW, there is no fee to complete the DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application. I have heard from others who swear their is a fee but what they are not understanding is that they are mixing up the MRV fee and the DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application in their thought process. Good luck and stay engaged in the process.

Hey, Hope you figured it out. I was wondering if you require any originals for the interview or are scanned copies ok? This includes birth certificates, police clearances, past immunisation records, etc.

Hey!  Fortunately did figure it out, and our Interview is actually set for tomorrow so hopefully that goes well.  For the copies/originals, we followed the k1 visa Document Cover Sheet, which can be found here: https://au.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/81/K1-Document-Cover-Sheet.pdf

Basically the columns that say "Copy Only" or "Original Only" we brought just those along.  Then the ones that do not say that, we brought both the original and photocopies -- for example, because birth certificate does not say original or copy, we are bringing both the original and copy.
