AOS interview scheduled, but still no EAD or AP - Is this normal?

Hi,

 

My wife is adjusting status from ESTA. We applied at the end of April and have still been waiting for her EAD and AP (which seems extremely backlogged right now with the pandemic and USCIS generally being backlogged). We are not too concerned about that aspect at this point given the current "normal." 

 

However, today her I-485 status was changed to "Interview was scheduled." It seems like very exciting news, but it caught both of us off-guard because we were expecting a much longer wait given we have not heard back about the EAD and AP. Is it weird that things have happened in this order or is a sign of different parts of the chain taking care of different forms? I assume the I-485 interview is handled by the Milwaukee field office (where we would interview) while the other forms for EAD and AP are handled by the national benefits center, right? In this case, the field office may just be less backlogged than the NBC.

Yes.  Also, AOS adjudication has no dependency on EAD/AP approval.  So it's not weird.  You're just lucky

When I did AOS two years ago my EAD AP combo card arrived in the mail 8 days before my interview

My wife's situation is the same. Interview scheduled at the end of this month an no EAD yet.

We also filed in April 2020 and no interview or anything..still waiting for any sign from USCIS.

I'm just thankful to have my EAD.

Well, our interview is on Tuesday and still no EAD. I hope this isn't a bad sign.

Some offices are pretty fast and not backlogged, so it's not uncommon to have the interview before EAD. Remember that EAD is a parallel benefit. It's not mandatory to have it.

That's what we heard. Would have been nice to have received the EAD a couple of months ago but interview and green card is much better. 😊
