Spouse’s birth certificate

Hello all, my husband has his visa appointment tomorrow (expedited, luckily). The thing is I am now double checking the visa interview requirement page and it seems to say they will need to see my birth certificate. Anybody who has interviewed recently, did they actually ask to see this? I am totally freaking out as I do not have it. If it’s needed the best I can do is start the process of having my parents try to send a copy to the Embassy. Any thoughts? Thanks

Thoughts— I have never known of a US spouse’s birth certificate to be needed at a London interview. It’s all about his personal documents except your tax return and proof of income.

Ah that is such a relief to hear! I thought I might be misreading it but of course doubt creeps in. My husband is taking my actual passport with him to the Embassy as we live together in the UK, so I really wonder whether you can do better than that anyway. Fingers crossed things are not delayed with overnighting especially when my parents offered to send it to me a few weeks ago and I was sure I didn’t need it 😬

I have literally read many hundreds of London interview tales and “Oh no I didn’t have my American petitioner’s birth certificate” has never come up. By comparison, not having a copy of the American’s 2019 tax return or transcript would be a problem. I think you’re fine.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but is a copy of the tax returns ok? It doesn't need to be an original?

Many thanks

Correct, but a tax return needs a wage statement (W2 or 1099) with it to be a “complete tax return”. A photocopy of the wage statement is also fine. A tax transcript from the IRS doesn’t need the wage statement because the IRS has already verified the wages. An exception would be if you had a joint return and needed to show the income of just one of the people (common when you have a joint sponsor who files with a spouse.)

That's great, thanks so much for your help all across these boards!
