It may be a coincidence.  

But I saw a post last month of an October or November 2019 filer who had just come out of his interview. 

He wrote this I believe around December 17th. But I can't remember where it was exactly, but I will look for it and link it.

He was in the same "we are taking longer..." wait. He says a few weeks earlier he had the idea of doing what turns out to be exactly the idea that I had. He added a document. At his interview the officer asked him out of curiosity why did he add a new document on his file. He said that he was straight forward with him, that it was just to see if someone would notice. He said the officer said that it was noticed and congratulated him for being, in his words: "pro-active". That to me sounds like they do get something that pops up when you add something. 

But again, could be just a coincidence, maybe also could be that someone's case has no issues and has been fully reviewed and/or has passed the FBI background check and was just sitting there, while others, may not be completed because of more reviews, incomplete background checks... In the latter cases if a check isn't completed even if this trick actually worked for me, it wouldn't work.

Thanks for all the info. I wonder if some USCIS's offices are better about checking it than others?

I doubt anything is "popping up", but obviously they will notice extra added documents by the time they're ready to pick up your case (days, months or years after you added your document). They can see the dates the documents were added and that's when it gets noticed.

Do you work for USCIS? You seem to know with certainty how it works. Personally I don't know.

There are so many variables. Some may be more busy than others, FBI checks may take longer (or were not done yet)... I also read somewhere that it isn't like when you walk into the DMV for example and you take a ticket and wait your turn and as soon as one booth is available you just go to that booth. From what I read somewhere someone mentioned that a batch of application is given to each officers at the same time. So that would explain why it is possible for two people who filed in the same office may end up getting responses at very separate times (of course if their case is relatively the same). If they get 10 files each for example the same day. If your file goes to one who has more to review on his cases than someone you know who applied the same day in the same office, the other officer may have less of a workload on his case, and finish faster and start working on his new batch with newer applicants than you still stuck with the other first officer's first batch. Again, these are things I read here, I do NOT work with USCIS so it could all be speculation.

Maybe Scandi, who seems to know with certainty can enlighten us?

Hi everyone, 

 

Just wanted to keep you all posted on my interview experience. My interview was scheduled for 8:30AM Dec16th at Santa Ana, CA and I arrived there at 8:15AM. I was taken to the second floor where Adjustment and Naturalization interviews take place. I waited in the waiting room for an hour before i was called in. My officer was such a nice guy and he was accompanied by a female officer who was there to observe him. They both were looking at my documents and said I have lots of evidence and they really appreciated the fact that I had submitted that much.

I filed online in Nov, 2019 and submitted a bunch of documents. A few months ago, I added some more updated documents with 2019 joint tax filing, joint insurance, quarterly bank statements since my submission last year, lease renewal etc. and they were a bit confused as to why there were more recent submissions. I told them that I didn't see any movement in my case, so thought I'd update my documents online and they both nodded, smiled and said that it was great that I was proactive. 

The main officer asked me for my green card and driver's license, and he explained to the other officer that this is to see if I still have my green card and the driver's license is for checking my residency. He went through the application questions, talked for a bit and then congratulated me and told me that I was getting recommended for approval. The entire process took about 30 mins. They asked me to wait in the lobby for about an hour to receive my Naturalization certificate. I was walked outside and waited in the lobby for like 15 mins when I was called back in. I took the oath with both officers in the same interview room and received my certificate. I was out in 5 minutes this time. I walked out of there with my certification in hand at 10:10AM so basically it took me 2 hours total. I'm an American citizen now!!! 

 

Questions that I was asked were: 

- What did Abraham Lincoln do?

- When was constitution written?

- What happened on 9/11?

- What's the capital of California?

- How many amendments in Constitution?

- Name one of the longest rivers.

 

I answered them all 6 questions correctly so he told me I passed the test.

Hey millefleur try sending a message to sjones directly and asking him if he can give you more details. Maybe he can confirm or give you more details about all this. Maybe these officers noticed a pop up.

 

Either way I hope your name gets called up soon. I am pretty much done. Passed the interview two weeks ago, got the congratulations letter same day and online update same day, and was fortunate to get the oath letter the very next week which is for early February. It all depends on who you get and so many factors, and maybe luck.

Congrats, so happy for you! There are other April filers still waiting like me, so I'm not too worried yet....hoping there will be updates soon though!

 

I will upload more docs in a few days to see if it helps.

Some USCIS offices are just better than others at everything. Seattle has to be the most disorganized and poorly managed office of all. For N-400 there are still people from August 2019 waiting. I am a September 2019 filer and I’ll be lucky if I’m done by end of March. And that’s how long it was taking pre-COVID too. In fact, pre-COVID the combo filers were waiting up to 3 years for ROC/2 years for N-400.
